Entertaining, informative tour

My husband and I did the Dupont Circle tour with Sam, who was just absolutely fantastic. Clearly a lot of knowledge of both the history of the area and its residents and the architecture of the buildings. We were in it more for the history side, but Sam made the architecture side both accessible and interesting--and all told with good humor. It was great to learn more about this part of DC. Also, high kudos for the tour ending exactly when it was scheduled to end! I've done too many tours that don't end anywhere near when I expect them to.

We're local to the area, and I'm definitely interested in checking out some of the other tours.

Worth the time and money

Natalie was our guide and she was great. Lots of knowledge about the places we stopped at, and plenty about other things in the area as well. She was open to questions, but kept things moving at the same time. It rained while we were on tour, but she didn't slow down and always had a smile.

See Embassy Row through the eyes of an expert

An exceptional tour. Carolyn gave us not just an expert's architectural perspective but mounds of fun and interesting facts and stories. A really unexpected bonus was that she somehow managed to arrange our stop in front of the Turkish ambassador's residence with him coming out for a jog and he invited us in for a spontaneous tour.
We will definitely arrange another tour next year.

Fantastic DC tour of Embassy Row
We booked a private tour with another couple. Carolyn was a fantastic tour guide--knowledgeable and enthusiastic, with a wealth of information and fascinating stories. I highly recommend her and her tour company!

Unique, Knowledgeable, In-Depth Historical Fun!

Just took my fourth tour with DC Design tours (Embassy Row Guilded Age) as a local, and this company continues to deliver great experiences time and time again! Every guide I've been with has been so informed, friendly, and fun - the research they do on the history behind these areas is bar none. I have never been on another tour that goes this in depth, and really tells the story of a neighborhood. I'll keep going with them every time!

Well researched, excellently presented tour

I’ve taken the Cleveland Park and Dupont Circle/Embassy Row tours with Carolyn and am looking forward to more on my next trip to DC. She clearly mines libraries and media for the most intriguing historical nuggets.

Her talks, delivered with enthusiasm, humor, and illustrations, are packed with stories, historical context, colorful characters, and attention to design. I also see her generate a friendly group vibe among the tour group. A great way to spend a couple hours in DC!

Making History Fun

I have been on several DC Design Tours now and I have to say they are the best. The guides are knowledgable and make it fun. I learn something new each time. I have attended several versions of DC Design Tours and continue to be impressed each and every time. In a city where the tallest monuments dominate the skyline, these tours really bring a unique perspective of what's in between the eye catching sites. Often pointing out less obvious features of buildings and architecture, their commentary definitely highlights design elements otherwise overlooked by traditional tour companies. As a local, this tour kept surprising me and I have also brought out of town friends who were thrilled to experience DC this way for the first time. What's been most important to me is how Carolyn and her staff are truly professional. You can tell these programs are designed and led with great integrity and passion by folks who are local to and love their city. Sam even had a few good jokes that made me laugh out loud! Top of the line experience in DC - worth every dollar and happy to support this small business who is making a huge impact.
