The shifting scenery and flowing clouds were beautiful.
There were two ropeways and we stayed at the Hilton, so we came up from Waishuangxi and went around the course for two to three hours, but those who didn't have the strength could climb on the opposite ropeway on the Jinshaxi side and walk the course for one to two hours, or we could go straight down without going back.
There are a number of highlights and there are information boards, so it's a good idea to check them as you go along.

San Qing Shan, located in Jiangxi Province, is a natural wonder that stands out even in a country celebrated for its stunning landscapes. This UNESCO World Heritage Site combines mystical mountainscapes, ancient Taoist temples, and a vibrant array of biodiversity that captivates nature enthusiasts and spiritual seekers alike.
The name San Qing Shan translates to “Three Pure Ones Mountain,” reflecting its three main peaks, which are said to represent the three main gods of Taoism. These peaks are not only a spiritual symbol but also offer some of the most dramatic and picturesque vistas in China. The mountain is shrouded in mist and clouds for much of the year, giving it an ethereal and otherworldly feel.
Visitors to San Qing Shan can explore well-maintained trails that wind through lush forests and past crystal-clear streams. The cable car ride to the mountain offers a panoramic view of the rugged terrain and dense greenery, making it a must-do for first-time visitors.
The park is also known for its unique geological features, including massive granite pillars and dramatic rock formations that jut skyward, defying gravity. The “Python Rock,” “Goddess Peak,” and the breathtaking “West Sea” are just a few of the scenic spots that make San Qing Shan a photographer’s paradise.
Aside from its natural beauty, San Qing Shan is home to a variety of rare plants and wildlife, further enhancing its status as a top ecological tourist spot. The clean air, the sound of chirping birds, and the tranquility make it a perfect place for meditation and rejuvenation.
San Qing Shan is not just a scenic area; it’s a profound cultural and spiritual experience. The ancient Taoist temples scattered across the mountain add a rich cultural layer to the visit, offering insight into China’s religious practices and philosophies.
For anyone looking to explore the natural beauty and spiritual depth of China, San Qing Shan is an unforgettable destination. Highly recommended for its stunning landscapes, serene environment, and cultural significance.

We hiked Sanqingshan two days after hiking Yellow Mountain. Any edge the latter may have on scenery is marginal at best and is more than offset by the relative tranquillity of Sanqingshan. It is also much easier on the body not having to ascend and descend thousands of steps. The only wish we had (throughout nature spots in China) is that Chinese men could pay a tiny bit of respect towards 'No Smoking' signs rather than ignoring them with sheer arrogance.

Hi There. We are a group of 3 people in our 70s (some of us with sore knees :( ) Would you advise south or east entrance? We can walk but too many steps would be very difficult. Is it possible to do only one part of the trail if necessary? I assume we would still see beautiful vistas???
Your response will much appreciated
Rédigé le 24 août 2019
Hi! If you wanna avoid steps, definitely take the east entrance (Jinsha Ropeway) as the south entrance is lower down the mountain and you will have to climb more. The route is like this - when u start from the ropeway, there r some options u can take, looping clockwise or anti-clockwise back to the rope way. I can't remember what direction was mine but we walked for about 20 to 30 min on flat ground then many stairs up to the python. Thereafter if u wanna move on to sunshine cost and west coast where there r lots of flat ground u can, but do rem there r always staircases and the whole loop take 6 to 7 hrs. yes u can always do part of the trail and then go back the way u came...u would still see nice scenery. time yourself, assess ur fitness level and decide on a turn back point. in my case I hadn't planned on completing the whole loop. but as I progressed I felt like i would rather climb in a new place than go back the way i came. Take it easy, even going up the steps, I rested every 25 steps. it really does test ur perseverance.

How long does it take to walk up the mountain from where the cable car drops you off? (Or does it drop you off at the top?)
Rédigé le 3 juillet 2019
The usual hike up the mountain and back to the cable car area is around 90 minutes.

I am going to be traveling with some other Americans in a few weeks (mid-July). One is a 70 year old man. The rest of us are younger, but standard Americans (aka, not super fit). Obviously we'll buy all of the tram passes to avoid as much climbing as possible, but do you think this trip is feasible for our group? I'm mostly concerned about the climb up -- I read that someone said it's an hour of climbing stairs. Is that one hour straight? Or is it manageable?
We did go to Zhangjiajie (another mountain) a few years earlier with the same group, but getting to the top was not a big deal because they had buses to take us up most of the way. Just wondering if we should look at Huangshan or another mountain instead.
Thanks!
Rédigé le 3 juillet 2019
HI there r certain stretches of Sanqingshan tt have flights after flights of stairs...however u can always slow down like we did....rest every 25 steps....this mountain needs perseverance...at one stretch the stairs were steeper but there were chains to hang on to. There r many senior folks fr China there so it is doable for a 70 year old. But be prepared to sweat. There r also long stretches where it is just flat ground and u enjoy the stunning scenery...give ourselves at least 7 hrs to complete the whole loop...

If you mean "Shanghai," the answer is that it's about 2.5 hours on the train to Shangrao, and then an hour or so by bus/car/shuttle to the mountain. Well worth it, however.

Hi Ka Hong, were you able to use the internet when you were there? If yes, which telco did you subscribe to? I will be going there in 1 week's time. Will need access to internet for work purpose. Also, which hotel did you stay in? Thanks
Rédigé le 21 novembre 2016
On the south side, from the bottom to where the cable car goes would take between 1 and two hours to walk at least. From the top of the cable car on the south side, there are two loops. We did the West one in the morning and the East one in the afternoon. We went pretty much everywhere, but it took from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you have half a day, I would recommend taking the cable car, hiking around the east loop, and taking the cable car back down. I wouldn't spend less than half a day there.
