Beautiful and casual walk through the countryside of the Burren. We went when the wind was howling and in the rain and still enjoyed it! You’ll see a church, temple, and holy well along the way. The path is marked with little arrows. Look for the stone steps over the walls.

Our day happened to be dry but this walk would be good in all weather, I think, i.e. no muddy paths. Interesting vistas as well as roadside flora. Constant sound of birds yet we saw few.
Best part was coffee and cake at Burren Perfumery before starting and lunch at Cassady's after :-)

We got to explore this area with our guide, Tony Kirby. It was excellent and we learned a lot about the area, walls, history and environment. Explored the Abby and adjoining village ruins. Great tour and adventure.

My friend and i were really looking forward to this walk. We parked at cassidys pub and walked down the road and took a right turn towards temple cronin church. We met a very cute white dog with a red bandana who came to greet us. We continued down another 200m and looked up and came face to face with two large dogs barking their heads off. We went to turn back and one of the dogs came chasing after us. Walk over. Very disappointed!! I live in county clare and have been on many looped walks and have never had a problem before. Will never go back to carran to do this walk again. I'm a dog lover so anybody nervous around dogs beware!

This is labelled as a marked way. Sections of it are very well marked. Others are not. Sections are following paths / trails - other times you are on open ground. Its a lovely walk giving a real sense of the Burren but probably best to have a map with you

We took this 5km loop walk on the recommendation of a worker at the Caherconnel fort about a half hour away. We parked across from Cassidy’s in Carran and followed the loop. There is a map at the parking lot and I took a picture of it and I advise anyone going on this hike to do the same. It came in handy as it can be tricky to navigate.

A large portion of the walk is along roads, including the first half. Keep an eye out for the trail markers on stones and you should be okay but keep referring to the photo of the map you took back at the parking lot.

So you go down the road and eventually turn right and are passing by farms and cows. We were fine but wondering when the actual woods began when a little white dog appeared on the road in front of us. He ran up to us and made friends and walked with us about a quarter of a mile before stopping and running off back where he came from. We had nicknamed him Superdog because of a red bandana tucked in his collar that looked like a cape.

We finally reached the off road portion of the trail and passed through a stairs in the stone wall. The trail is poorly marked here and we wandered into a cow pasture. We were unsure of what to do next when I noticed a group on the other side of a stone wall. It turns out it was a guided walking tour and they were able to get us back on track and basically saved us.

The trail resumed by the ruins of a 12th Century church called Temple Cronin which was an unexpected gem to encounter. It then ran through some mossy trees and past a sacred spring of some kind. We made our way along as the rain fell and the trail ran into yet another road which was part of the loop. We walked along the road for a while and guess who jumped out of the brush to greet us. It was Superdog again, I kid you not. I don’t know where he’d been or what he was up to, but there he was. This time, he ran ahead of us the whole time to the end of the loop trail. He led us down the Old Bog Trail, an overgrown track barely big enough for a mouse.

The trail ends passing through a horse pasture, after which Superdog abandoned us. It was an odd and fascinating adventure. Should you take this walk, keep an eye out for the trail markers because they are not always clear and, should you see Superdog, give him my regards.

We recently completed this 5 km walk which starts and ends at Cassidy's pub. It is shorter than the Carran Loop and a much easier walk as the majority of it is along quiet secondary roads. You could easily push a buggy or pram along this route. There is plenty of nature to look at along the way.

Takes about 1.5 hours. Generally well signposted except right at the end, but by then you should be able to spot Cassidy's pub. On the way see St Cronan Chapel and a wishing well.

We took this 5km walk on the recommendation of our B&B host. It was a beautiful sunny day and we enjoyed our walk along by roads with historic sites along the way. The Old Bog Road bit was too overgrown to pass but we just went around another way. Very enjoyable.
