I had read about this ferry to Cape Vincent yet I could not find out much information about it or the schedule. We were staying in Kingston and decided to take the free ferry from Kingston to Wolfe Island.
We drove down to the other end of the island and just happened upon the Hornes Ferry and it was ready to leave the dock and head to Cape Vincent. We decided to hop on board and go for the ride. It cost $30 American $ for my husband and I so make sure you are prepared with cash. AND make sure you have your passport since you go through a border patrol booth in Cape Vincent.
The ride over was fine, there were 3 or 4 cars and 3 motorcycles on board.
We spent the day between Cape Vincent and Alexandria Bay. The only issue we had was that we didn't have the address to get us back to the ferry and I could not locate it at all on my maps. I finally found the address of 319 N. James St in Cape Vincent and we were able to get back just after 5 pm. The boat was still on the way so it worked out perfect. We only paid $5 to return since it was a same day return trip. There were probably 6-7 cars on the way back which is probably the max they can carry depending on the car sizes. There is also a border patrol booth on Wolfe Island when you return.
From Wolfe Island, we had to catch the other free ferry to return to Kingston.
It was a nice alternative to driving over the 1000 Island bridge to go back and forth between Kingston and NY.
We had a great trip both ways!

Pretty crossing between Wolfe Island & Cape Vincent, a tiny little village on the shore, frozen in time. Something you might see in an old Saturday Evening Post. Some nice shops, friendly place. The locals are relaxed & friendly. Nice place to spend a summer afternoon.

Good trip; very small ferry, so getting in line early might be a good idea. Had no problem when we were there in September.

We like to support local businesses. Heard the Horne Ferry was running again. Took the Wolf Island Ferry to reach the Horne Ferry dock. Waited 1 hour! We could see the ferry on the US side. Phoned the Horne Ferry number. We were told that the captain had gone to pick up parts he might need …. Would be back in 1/2 hour maybe. Meantime no notice of disrupted service. The kindly boarder guard knew nothing about schedule delay. Poor way to do business. We wasted 3 hours on our trip to Niagara. Next time we will take the bridge to Watertown.

The ferry opened back up today, August 15 2023! Great experience. The bakery on Wolfe island is really good! Wind farm is interesting. $25 to Wolfe Island, $5 back on the same day.

Kind of ridiculous that someone can’t run the ferry to Wolfe Island. Use to be enjoyable to take a bicycle over and ride the island and the main reason I traveled to Cape Vincent.

We were going to take the Horne's ferry back to U.S., without any notification and found out the ferry was not running that day due to mechanical problems. We had to take the ferry back to Kingston and drove crossing the border. This inconvenience added extra 4 hours to our trip.

Could not have been more pleasant for a short trip from New York to Wolf Island, Ontario. There was no difficulty getting our car on the small ferry, and the ferry team was helpful and friendly. Candian customs were swift and efficient, and we were on our way to our vacation.

Hello, I saw that you've recently used the ferries to go to USA. I plan to take the ferry from Kingston at 10:30 am and then take the ferry to Cape Vincent at 11:15 am. Do you think I'll have enough time? Thanks for your advice.

Map of ferry route (s)?
From Cape Vincent to Wolfe Island from Wolf Island to Kingston
Rédigé le 29 juillet 2016
Hi, its only about one mile across the channel between Cape Vincent and Horne's Landing on Wolfe Island.
It's roughly a 45 degree angle heading northwest out of Cape Vincent's harbour. Takes about 10 minutes max to get across.
The ferry on the other side of the Island that goes to Kingston Ontario takes at least 20 minutes and is at least 3 times the distance across.
