The turn off is not far from Jenolan Caves but you have to drive 30kms in on gravel road & then 30kms out again to see this. Road is not too bad, some serious pot holes though. We were in a very low car so took it easy at around 40kms per hour. But it was absolutely worth the effort as the view from the lookout is pretty bloody spectacular. The lookout is about a 10 minute walk from the car park on very easy flat ground. Be prepared to be gobsmacked by the view!

A great day-outing with a few hiking trail options. Remember your sunscreen, hat with fly-net, and water bottle. Suitable for families.

Beautiful view. The plateau walk to THAT photo-op and the dance floor cave is currently closed. The waterfall is cute, there's approx 400 steps down to it.

We had a great day out exploring the Kanangra-Boyd National Park. Unfortunately our first attempt to the Kanangra Walls there was lots of fog and misty rain but made for a beautiful scene down at the kalang falls. The walk down the the falls is quiet steep and scary with no rails and drop offs on both sides of the path at one point but is well worth the walk. We then had fun in our 4wd drive, driving the Morong Creek Fire Trail and Kowmung Fire trail with multiple creek crossing. Makes a great day out. We made a second trip out to see if we could see the Walls and we were successful and was well worth the 2nd trip.

Kanangra-Boyd National Park is an outstanding national park. There are lots of accessible walks that can be done, both day and overnight. There are magnificent views. There's also camping - for example, at Boyd Camp Ground. On this particular occasion of our visit we parked at Kanangra Walls Car Park and ventured into one of its magnificent canyons in Arabanoo. Not for the faint-hearted. We walked as far as the junction with Christy's Creek then returned to the car via the ever-long Colboyd range. But you don't need to do an epic trip such as this one to enjoy the park. Just head over to Kanangra Walls to gaze upon the views at sunset or sunrise. You won't be disappointed.

We decided to drive down the dirt road to check out Kanangran Walls. This involved a 30 Km trip down a dirt road. This in itself is something of a culture shock to us Brits. Add to that the fact that we were in a rickety rented camper van and the whole adventure got even more exciting. We banged and crashed along the road and wated out in the rear view mirror for bits falling off the camper van.
Inside the van was exciting as well. The fly screens fells off the windows, all the cushions fell off the seats, the microwave burst open and the glass plate crashed to the floor and bits fell out of the air conditioning unit. All in all I think we got off pretty lightly.
Basic is a word you might use to describe the Boyd River Campground. But it is free and has a fantastic romantic feel to it. Just a little tip should you decide to use the toilet. Make sure you liberally coat your legs with industrial grade insect repellent. I did not and as a result had 10 bites below the knee on my left leg and half a dozen on my right. I was scratching all bloody night as a result.
I bumped into a couple of people who were very friendly and helpful. One lady suggested that we get up early to witness sunrise from the lookout at Kanagran Walls. We took her up on this and if you get an opportunity I would urge you to do the same. It was amazing. We drove down to the car park and took a short walk to the lookout where we saw a spectacular sunset. In the distance we could see a thunderstorm with flashes of lightening but where we were it was warm & dry.
After the sunrise we had breakfast in the carpark and were joined by a Kangaroo with her baby. It was a very special day which we won’t forget.
The walk along the plateau is a bit disappointing as it stays away from the cliff edge and all you can see is scrub. The cliff very high indeed so it is understandable I suppose. We just had a peep over the edge.
Well worth a visit but be careful of the cliffs and the heat.

We did two short hikes here after visiting Jenolan Caves. The lookout walk had an incredible view, and the falls were so beautiful. We loved how this park was not very busy at all; we had the falls completely to ourselves!
The only downside of the park was the road. 29kms of poorly maintained gravel--be warned! We noted that we were the only non-4X4 in the parking lot with our ASX. You definitely want a vehicle with ground clearance, and go slow. But, the walks were worth the drive!

There are 3 walks:
Waterfall (30 mins max)
Lookout (10 mins max from car park)
Plateau Walk (30 mins max each way but you will want to spend some time admiring the incredible view). You can look at a cave enroute - it says 10 min return but it is only about 30 seconds along the path.
It took us 30 mins to drive there from the entrance to the park in our 4wd. It can be done in a normal car but a little slower.
There was a campground enroute and lots of other driving and walking tracks if you have time to explore more before getting to the Kanangra Walls.
It then took us 20 minutes to get to the Jenolan Caves from here.

We spent two days in Kanangra Boyd National Park. We came in from Jenolan Caves, and headed out to the Boyd River Campsite. With this great camping ground as your base you can go on lots of fabulous walks, or bike rides.
Do not miss Kanangra Walls, the highlight of the Park. It is an easy walk to the lookout and views are just stunning. If you continue on this track you end up at Kalang Falls which were flowing even in this dry time. This track is steep and rough.
We were in our four wheel drive so left the park via Kowmung River Fire Trail towards Wombeyan Caves. The track has a primitive camp area known as Dingo Dell.

I really loved the view of the plateau walk at Kanangra Boyd national park. You just have to drive all the way to the end of Kanangra walls road and there you start your walk. It is gorgeous.

Hi. From the carpark, how long does the Plateau walk take? How long is the distance?
Thanks a lot
Rédigé le 8 décembre 2017
It takes around an hour return to do the Plateau Walk. It depends on how long you stay out on the Plateau. Remember the walk is classified as moderate. Enjoy it is a beautiful area.
