We took a total of three trips out on Magdalena Bay Whales boat to watch the marlin migration: we had a great time and sure recommend this operation. The boat is top class, also used for deep sea fishing, well equipped and sea worthy. We had two different captains, both were knowledgeable and informative. Our contact during the booking process was Marco: he was flexible with our requests about timing and certainly we felt that he did his best to accommodate our needs: the pick up and drop off at our hotel was on time and well managed, the onboard lunch was done according to our needs (i.e., without meat), and in general we felt really nice and well taken care of. The marlins are a great show and anything else that you can see on a day out a very welcome bonus. We are looking forward to go again in 2021!

Every time I come down to Cabo I use this car service. Issac is the best! The cars are always super clean and nice! I highly recommend this service. I'll never use anyone else.

We had a fantastic time whale watching here. It is such a beautiful spot and setup very well for whale watching without being crowded.
We were out in a pangas for two hours and saw lots of grey whales up very close to the boat. Lots of mothers with their babies. The water was very smooth in this protected bay.
The sand dunes and birds were also amazing.
We enjoyed it here more than at San Ignacio.
This was my best whale watching experience ever and I have see whales all over the world.

We booked whale watching with Magalena Bay Whales by emailing Capt Marco. He was very patient and helpful in our planning. And when we had to cut our stay from 4 days to 2 on short notice there was (thankfully!) no penalty.
The Isabella hotel is basically a motel, clean but otherwise unremarkable (they say there is wifi in the rooms but it isn't really true). The Palapa Patio restaurant was very, very good.
The whale watching was superb and well organized. The first day there were too many to count and many spent time close to the boats. The second day we got to pet a whale (!) What an amazing experience! To pet such a force of nature is literally exhilarating!!
There is a restaurant on Isla Magdalena where we stopped for lunch before heading back to shore. Hopefully they will have octapus as a special when you go. Awesome!
I plan to return next year!

We booked our tour through the hotel with Calafia Whales but had recommendations where people did right through their site. We had a 1 1/4 hour flight from Cabo to the bay. It was very well organized trip. Our tour guide, Daniel was a great addition to the trip. there were 4 couples which was the perfect number, you wouldn't want any more but we had plenty of room in the boat. We did get pretty close to many whales but not right up to the boat. They said the babies were still young and hot real curious yet. Recommendation is to go at the end of Feb where we went at the beginning. By then the babies are a bit more curious. We did see a lot of whales and overall a good experience. Daniel and our boat driver did a great job! We will probably go again if we are there end of Feb next time. A nice local lunch after the boat tour before returning to Cabo.

What a low key, less tourist way to get up close and personal with migrating whales. They hang out in the bay with their newborns and are very curious about our small boats...it makes for a spectacular day of observation.

We booked whale watching with Mag Bay Whales by emailing Cpt Marco and have had the best of service and a wonderful time. Puerto San Carlos is delightful and The Isabella hotel and restaurant were great. We stayed at The Brennan and it was fabulous. Cpt Marco organised everything and we were treated so very well we will be going back. Our encounter with a friendly whale who wanted to get up close with us was just amazing. To touch such a force of nature and feel how they want to reach out is just marvelous!! Wildlife and town-life were such a treat! Recommend all the above - you will be pleasantly surprised at how great life can be! We touched a whale!! How great is that!!

We went recently to Magdalena bay to see gray whales. From Cabo san Lucas, Baja we have 2 options, going by car or by plane. Most tours organize going by car, some tours are 1 (very long day), other tours take 2 days. After all, the drive from Cabo to Magdalena is at least 6 hours each way.
Staying over in a camp or a fishing village at the bay is not an option for us as we were traveling with a 94 year old family member. In February, it can get down in the low teens (Celsius) at night and there is no heat.
The other not as frequent option is to take a small plane to the fishing village of Lopez Mateos. By plane, it is a 1 hour 20 minutes flight from the local airport in Cabo san Lucas. It was a chartered flight by Calafia airlines for a tour to Magdalena bay.
The single engine propeller plane is a Cessna Grand Caravan which can have 12 passengers besides the pilot and first officer. There were only 6 of us aboard. The flight was at 1.5-2km or 5000-6000 feet or less so we have a very nice commanding view. The flight was butter smooth. The take offs and landings were truly exceptional, even when we landed on a dirt road in Lopez Mateos. The pilot was a retired commercial pilot with 40 years flight experience. Going by plane, we were picked up near 8am at our hotel. By 10am we were in the boat out to interact with whales. Around 1:30pm we were back at the village and had a very nice easy non spicy seafood lunch (part of the tour as well as all snacks and refreshments during the day) which had lobsters, prawns, fish fillets, veggies. And by 5:30-6:00pm we were back at our hotel.
Magdalena bay on a good weather day is smooth like a lake. There were lots of gray whales. We say may be 7-8 adult whales and 1 baby whale. We had extensive close encounters with a gentle adult female whale which is pregnant. There were only 6 of us in the 12 foot boat.
It was a wonderful, incredible experience to say the least.

Can you also swim & snorkel near Bahia Magdalena in Baja? That is, in addition to whale watching.

I am going in March 2018. I see folks with tee shirts and also capt dressed warmly. My husband wants to take his Gtudens slickers (for working on fishing boats). I’m thinking they maybbe cumbersome.

Do we need to make reservations now to whale watch? We are going in February. What city should we stay in and also how long is the whale watching tour?

I have some questions about your trip whale watching do you have a contact phone number???

We are driving from Cabo to La Paz for a couple of nights (we love Balandra) before heading over to Magdalena Bay to watch the whales. We plan to be up and on the road by 6:00 am (la Paz) to be in MagdalenaIs Bay by say 9:30 - 10:00 am. It will be at the end of January 2018. Is that enough time to see the Whales, have lunch and stay over night?
