The main fact that I learned about visiting the gallery for the first time was that they are in desperate need of a new building, and that funds are constantly lacking for that. The gallery needs to be in a more inspiring part of the city, because it's not really close to other major sights, some major city parks, and the main shopping and dining areas. Plans, though, are underway to look for a new site right in the city centre.
I parked my car in a 4-storey Public Parking Garage and then descended to the street in search of the gallery as the first stop on my itinerary. I couldn't find the gallery's address as I walked 3-4 blocks one way and then 3-4 blocks the other. When I came back past the Parking Garage, I was startled to see that the gallery was actually on the ground floor of the garage! I had walked past it twice without noticing it! Better exterior signage is needed---not merely on the facade but projecting out onto the sidewalk as well.
The space inside is not extensive (on one floor), and it doesn't take long to see the main gallery areas. For me the more intriguing of the two exhibitions was one called "Emergence" shown in a couple of rooms that featured the diverse works of six artists who are graduate students of the Fine Art program at the University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus. Of the six, I was most fascinated by the wispy, faceless, acrylic figures of Moozhan Ahmadzadegan. This is a young artist to keep an eye out for in the future. The other gallery had a video and black-and-white ink-transfer print installation by well-known Calgary artist Derek Besant, which held my interest only momentarily.
But I liked the gallery's fairly spacious gift shop, which had some unique ceramic art, and a good selection of jewellery and greeting cards. The Vernon Gallery is closed Sundays.

Very small gallery in a small but vibrant art community. Vernon is a great little art city but the small base makes art shows hit and miss. There is no cost so no loss if its a miss.

VPAG consistently puts together great shows. The current show is worth repeat visits. The main gallery collection by Briar Craig is worth a few looks just to see the subtle marks in the multilayer prints. The Neon works (2) are a great touch to continue the play on works.

We've visited VPAG for the past few iterations of Art After Dark, and although we don't stay for super long each time, it's great to go see the new exhibits, chat with other patrons, drink some wine and there's always 1-2 really fun art activities (protest signs in February was great). VPAG generally has very topical exhibitions, showcasing talented individuals and thought-provoking content that we might not expect in a smaller town. They also offer family-friendly programming.

VPAG consistently puts on great exhibits despite the limited gallery room. The current show features local artists as well as selection of the this years BFA graduates. The show is well curated and displayed.

Today I had the great experience of tagging along with my grand daughters kindergarten class to the Art Gallery. Our guide/hostess for the tour was a very informative lady by the name of Kelsey. She treated these kids with respect and had great knowledge about the art exhibited as well as teaching the kids about drawing and colouring. This hands on tour was a great start to our day.
While at the Gallery we all viewed a great art exhibit by renowned artist Nicola Tibbetts, whose works entitled Artic Sojourn, were amazingly beautiful.
This whole experience was well worth the trip and look forward to the next time I get to visit the gallery.

My sister and brother in law have their works in there at times. We went with them to see the place. I was pleased with the variety of styles. The owner is not at all stuffy.

Gallery is just off of highway 97 (32nd street) through town. Gallery is continually updating artist shows so definitely worthwhile visiting whoever in Vernon.
