Last weekend we made our first hike down Snake Gorge 2.0
I don't think I'll find the words to describe the beauty and the thrill of the place. However, note that Snake Gorge 2.0 is somewhat more demanding: you need to be physically fit and have basic abseiling skills. We rented all abseiling equipment from Mr. Rashid the local guide, living in a village nearby and with the able help from his brothers - Zahar and Talib made it safely down the three sections where the rope is necessary.
I would recommend Snake Gorge 2.0 to anyone who loves canyoning and ready for some challenge.
In case you need it, the contact number of the local guide is below:

Good luck,
Sergey

On our way through Bani Wadi Awf we found also Snake Gorge. To get there you have to continue several kilometers after the tarmac road ends and follow the road on wadi floor. You need a 4WD.
After parking just in front of the entrance, you can walk for 10 minutes, but it is very hard to find a passage. There are some very small pools, not suitable for swimming.

Not too far to drive from Muscat (<2 hours these days). Big part of Wadi Bani Auf under construction in 2012 to asphalt the road. Unfortunately that is taking away some of the beauty, but it will shorten the trip.
The trip through the gorge takes a few hours, depending on size of the group. It is a combination of trekking, swimming and jumping from heights (about 2-4m).
Take sunblock, waterproof pocket for camera, water, and old clothes.
Once you enter the first pools, there is little possibility for return because of steep cliffs. However, if you can manage the fisrt jump, the rest should be mostly OK :-). Sometimes require more encouragement than others, but our trip had men and women of age groups anything 30s to 60s and everyone made it quite OK. The swim through the cave towards the end of the trip is the cherry on the cake.
Not suitable for too small kids (say <10 years depending on their adventure levels) or people with an extreme fear of heights. You can take a rope to lower people afraid of jumping.
The trip is certainly for the more adventurous, but it is worth it. It is easy a full day outing, so leave early enough to avoid too much heat. Also take care of the weather since there is no escape once you proceed past the point of no return (jumping down to the first pools). Best time is probably a week or 2 after some rains to ensure the pools are full but not too full so that the swim through the cave becomes a challenge.
Enjoy!!!
