Overpriced tasting experience with absolutely minuscule servings compared to other vineyards. None of the wines stood out and we found the whole place more than a little pretentious.

The customer service was really good; but the overall experience doesn’t compare to some of the other vineyards in the hawks bay. The wine was nice but nothing to write home about. The tasting seemed to be more on the pricer side than other vineyards in the area; especially considering when you’re purchasing wine. we have been in the past and it seemed like a let down compared to other visits.

Superb setting and nice staff. Tasting gave basic information and nothing more to bless you asked !
Tasting was 15 dollars per person and for that you tasted four wines all of which came from their entry level offerings.
Whilst all were well made at least one of the four should come from the more prestigious range that they produce.

Lovely setting as exoected. Helpful staff but miniscule tasters of wine so difficult to judge anything. No choice of 4 wines. $15 pp. Competitors charge $10 and serve 3 x as much per glass, you choose your wines and they give you a souvenir glass. So we shared which was ample as husband driving.

Friends recommended Black Barn Vineyards. On our visit to Napier and surrounding areas, popped-in to check it out – great setting, lovely shop attached, full of knick-knack food souvenirs, interesting chutneys, organic remedies. Staff recommended a fab venue for lunch - their bistro was closed as we were visiting off-season. We'll be back

They are open on weekends for wine tasting. It seemed no booking required.
The staff there was professional and friendly.
We think the wine wasn’t so up to our expectations, and the only wine we liked was a Chardonnay.

Did the wine tasting @ $10 for 4 wines, but no choice of which wines, so we ended up with a fizz, a Rose, a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Strange selection of wines given that Hawkes Bay is famous for its Chardonnay, Syrah, and Bordeaux blends. Option to pay extra $5 to taste another wine. Measly pours. Asked lots of questions but the people did not seem to know much about them, nor the qualities of the 2019 and 2020 vintage, just that they are easy to drink. Wines themselves were ok, Pinot Noir the best of the 4, but none compare to others in this area at similar prices. One of many vineyards we visited over 3 days, and certainly the least enjoyable. We were the only people there, and after we’d paid the server had the nerve to ask us to go back to our table and fetch our tasting glasses.
Also went to the Bistro which had been recommended to us by friends, and we really enjoyed some of the big reds with our meal, a much better experience.

The first of 3 vineyards we visited. Even though we had booked as we had a large group & I had confirmation of booking, we arrived to be told they don't do bookings & nothing was ready. We were told to go and find a table & eventually a staff member came out with glasses & then a bit later with the first wine. Was not very informative at all basically poured then went off to the Cellar to serve other people, waited about 10 to 15 minutes between tastings & nothing improved. We asked for water for between tastings she waved her hand that it was over there for us to get it ourselves.
Another group over from us had a different staff member who appeared to be more passionate about their wines. Unfortunately for BB one of our group is the wine buyer for a large hotel corporation that buys BB wines & she was unimpressed enough that she won't be continuing to buy from them. The general consensus of our group was arrogant, uninformative & uninterested. Fortunately the next 2 vineyards were amazing in contrast. Will not be recommending.

A really nice winery with a good tasting option ( deducted from at purchase) plus lovely shop next to winery. A great way to spend the scatter on in the courtyard under the fig trees.
The lady who served our tasting also recommended a local Japanese restaurant which was absolutely divine.
