We have been coming to Cornwall for a number of years and stay within walking distance of Kennack Sands most times we visit.
Our son has just started university and this is our first time down here with it being just us and the dogs and they love their walks on the beach with us, if for very different reasons! One enjoys running into the water and chasing stuff, the other just sniffs whatever detritus or dead thing it can find and tries to eat it when we aren't looking.
Kennack sands is not the biggest beach in the world and I don't think you can bring the dogs onto it at certain times in the summer, but we always try and come when the small people are in school so that generally means less restrictions on our furry friends.
We have seen people surfing on what looked like pretty big waves and enjoyed the sight of one of them 'wiping out' I believe is the term. V.amusing once we knew he was OK.
I probably haven't made it clear enough so far that the reason we go to it most days is because it is so beautifully set. The beach is surrounded on the sides by rocky cliffs (well, hills) and behind it are dome sand banks and a costal path that make up part of some lovely coastal walks. The sea is always characterful, some days it is calm and peaceful, others it is energetic and powerful and in-between days like today it was playful and inviting (for the dog, not me! Though there were a couple of gentlemen having a wonderful time in there when we went down this evening).
There is a cafe that does nice coffee and lovely hot chocolate as some nice looking food (have never eaten there, but is looks nice) and there is a beach shop that is never open when we visit so we have no clue what that is like either! Helpful for everyone I am sure!
So, in short, we love it! It suits a couple of old (ish) farts with a couple of daft dogs, but it might not be a full day's entertainment for a family of five!!

The beach itself was ok, not particularly pretty, and the main beach was very crowded, not surprisingly in August. The second beach behind the rock was far quieter.

Access is down a very narrow step access road that serves both directions with cats parked on every spare bit of verge, which can be interesting a bigger car/campervan. The car park had decent overspill, but I spent an age trying to pay online (don't bother), before giving up and paying at the actual machine.

It was a perfectly reasonable couple of hours for us, but I've just come home from holiday to find a penalty notice, which has left a real bitter taste in the mouth. It seems they time you in to the car park and out the car park, and don't allow for time to find a space, make the payment, and any time after you get back to the car brushing sand off and leaving etc. I guess this is technically our fault, but you have been warned that they take a really aggressive approach to parking in order to maximise fines. I can see now from reviews that others have had the same experience (I wish I'd read them beforehand) and I suspect that many others have fallen in to their honey trap.

Awful. I recently visited in the evening, on holiday, at around 8pm. The car park was empty bar one other car and I stayed for about an hour.

I didn't see signs or machines and, if I'm honest, didn't really look, having parked in similar places eg Poldhu during the day noting charges do not apply late evening.

I've returned home to a fine for £60, increasing to £100.

I had a lovely holiday but this has spoiled it. Is this how Cornwall welcomes its visitors?

It's my fault, clearly, but just leaves a very bad taste. It's so sad that this is how the world is going. Very Big Brother.

As a fair and reasonable person, my strong feeling is there ought to be barrier and a big, clear sign on entry:

PRIVATELY OWNED CAR PARK.

PARKING CHARGES APPLY 24HRS.

ANPR IN OPERATION.

As it was also starting to get dark when we visited so any such sign should be well lit.

The owners and operators of car parks like this should be ashamed of themselves. It's entirely reasonable to pay for parking but please make it very, very clear if what you are doing is outside of normal custom, practice and reasonable expectation for an average member of the public.

It leaves an extremely bitter taste with an innocent, law abiding holiday-maker who is more than willing to pay for parking feeling really badly hoodwinked and conned - stealth fined by hidden camera.

AVOID!

Beautiful series of beaches and coves at low tide. The main two are lovely with gently sloping sand into the sea and lots of rock pools to enjoy. The 2 cafes are great for drinks and a nice snack , toilets available and fairly cheap parking. Lifeguards in attendance too which is a bonus. Good place to learn to surf , lessons are available.

We chose this beach as it had parking, toilets, a cafe and a lifeguard.
We went on a week day and parked fine, think it was around £4 for 4 hours. The beach was clean and popular with dogs. The water was clear and although very cold I went in for a dip.
This is not the prettiest of beaches in the area but I liked the facilities and having a lifeguard on duty.

Gorgeous beach, we love it here!
Dog friendly most of the time and has always been relatively quiet whenever we have been there.
Didn’t have an issue with the car park. Buy your ticket as soon as you get there, get extra time if you need too. It’s all written clearly on the signage.
Mora cafe was amazing! Fresh tasty food at a reasonable price and served quickly too! Looking forward to going again on our next visit.

Beautiful beach but beware the car park - save your parking ticket so that you can contest the fine that could arrive a week later even if you've paid for your parking

Great beach with easy access. Two cafes available for snacks. Two smaller beaches become one large beach at low tide. Dog friendly and stunningly beautiful.

Beach is lovely, but so are others around that area where you will not get charged £100 for parking in an empty car park on a windy cold December day so that your elderly mum who has had her bladder removed could empty her stoma bag in the toilets there. What a disgrace, another private parking company getting money for nothing. Don’t go to Kennack Sands!
