This is a fun 'rainy day' activity. We learned about the long history of masks in the area. It's very interesting to see how the tradition almost died out but has been resurrected. Obviously it's not as big as New Orleans or Rio but it's alive and well! You can also paint your own mask, which would probably be a fun activity for a family.

I am not one to stop for museums when I am on vacation, but I decided to stop here since I was driving by. The front desk staff were very friendly and informative. I did not know anything about the Mi careme so I found this very interesting place to see. They have a gift shop where they sell hand painted masks and other gifts. I was tempted to buy a mask, but was not sure I would ever use. I would recommend stopping here .....just keep an eye out for it because it is in off the road and we did drive by the first time. Entrance fee is $5.00.

The Centre de la Mi-careme was one of the highlights of our visit. We were greeted by costumed staff members, locals all, who shared their traditions enthusiastically and answered all our questions with great good humor.

Mi-Careme is a fascinating folk tradition still practiced today. One of the staff members said her five-year-old nephew was now old enough to go out with everyone. The Centre has a small but wonderful collection of costumes and masks, and the videos of home visits are well worth the time to watch.

Admission is free, but do please leave a donation; this museum was built with love and deserves the support of every visitor.

I am so glad you enjoyed your visit, thank you for your support. I need to point out though, that regular admission is $5.00 for adults unless we have a special event which was the case when you visited. Thank you again for visiting us.

We loved our visit! Valerie was so lovely to chat with and very knowledgeable about the Acadian traditions of Mi-Carême. We pushed all the buttons and listened to all the history. I’m still humming Viva Mi-Carême!!!

This museum was a pleasant and very interesting surprise. Again, this is a piece of the Acadian culture that I didn't know about.
The videos show that a great time is had by all - dressing up, dancing, visiting, eating.
The masks are unique, colourful, fun, scary.
We even had a couple of young ladies dress up and dance for us and with us.
Our questions were well answered and I would suggest for those who wish to learn more about aspects of the Acadian culture that they visit this venue.

Literally found it by chance.
Anna and Elly greeted us and Elly explained in Acadien the place.
Way back when, during lent, people used to party halfway through for a day to get over the boredom. They had to costume up lest the parish priest would identify them and kick them out of the parish.
The whole place is an explosion of colors and history, depicting the fun of being Acadien.
Do take the time, it’s well worth it. Just wish the sign by the road would LARGER!

We did a group dinner at the Centre de la Mi-careme before a local musical event during Celtic Colours. Wonderful fish cakes and chow (sort of a local chutney-like topping) with all the trimmings. Fun night out.

This is a fantastically interesting place to see where tthe ancient French custom of doing something slightly illegal (church-wise) was and still is practices. The custom they create for the mid-Lenten party are absolutely great. Make sure you have you camera with you as you'll want to take many photos.
