This is a small park located along the highway. Nice flower arrangements in summer, but the key attraction here is the amazing views of the Fraser River. There are some information plaques nearby detailing the importance of the river to the area. Also take note of the chainsaw carvings within the vicinity.

When we were in Hope last year, Centennial Park was on our itinerary; however, time got the better of us. To console us for missing out, I did acknowledge that we technically saw the park, which runs along Water Street and Wallace Ave, as we drove by en route to elsewhere. But this explanation did not satisfy; thus, when we patronized Hope this year, I made it a point to actively visit and explore this rather small park.

Unfortunately, and in stark contrast to the earlier review, we were rather underwhelmed by Hope’s Centennial Park. Yes, it features some of the community’s awesome chainsaw carvings; yes, it contains an interesting and informative monument to Fort Hope; and, yes, it provides nice views of the mighty Fraser River and Cascade Mountains . . . but it’s still a very small park and most of its features can be enjoyed elsewhere. Consider: There are over 50 chainsaw carvings sprinkled throughout Hope; The Cascades can be viewed anywhere in town, since they provide the mountainous backdrop; there are various wonderful spots just outside of Hope to view the Fraser River in all its glory; and the history of Hope can easily be gleamed from the Visitor Information Centre.

Maybe I’m coming down too hard on the Centennial Park? I mean, it’s an okay space, but definitely not a hidden gem and certainly not worth going out of your way for.

We were back to Hope recently, and during our 3-night stay made several stops to Centennial Park to catch views of the Fraser River, especially during walkabouts daughter and I made early each morning. A lovely spot, and at this time of the year, the overall viewing was enhanced a touch by the low water level of the River.

The Fraser River here in Hope was at its winter low — in rather stark contrast to the summer high level observed when we were here last — after the spring snow melt, and rains. The lovely weather on the go during this stay, and the River’s setting, sure provided some great viewings.

Otherwise, the Park at this location, was much the same as during our last stay - with the same informational structures, signages, and such - just lacking the green colours of spring.
