The views on this walk are spectacular... Some flat walking along the coast line, or you can climb higher ground. You are walking through farm land so beware if animals. The views from the top are fantastic. Walk back down is a bit steep the way we came back. Well worth a visit, but NO dogs allowed in DOC parks. We saw Kingfishers, fantails and swifts.

I highly recommend Duder Regional Park for a morning or afternoon walk. We walked from Umupuia Beach on the Duder Coastal Walk. We then climbed up to the Farm Loop Walk, before heading out on t he Pa Walk to the point. We continued along the Farm Loop Track to the path’s main entrance before heading back to Umupuia Beach on the link track. All up this was 8.7km and took us nearly three hours with two nine year olds and an eleven year old.
As others have said, the park is mainly farmland with some native bush areas. The tracks are up and down but none of the hillls are too massive. The peninsular affords stunning views of the Hairaki Gulf from many directions. When standing at the pa site at the end of the peninsular you are literally in the middle of the view.
Highly recommended for a good day walk which leaves you feeling like you have had a reasonable amount of exercise and have been uplifted by the view.

Located at the north part of east side of Auckland, this Regional Park offers nearly anything. It is not straightaway next to the beach, visitors need to park approx. 2 – 3km from the coast line, however it worth to try. You name it, walk along the open grass land, following the ridge or valley of the hill until the tip of peninsula, meet with sheep, pick the mushroom along the way, spacious land scape, and the final reward is a beautiful horizon at the coast line, with 360 degree views from the tip of the hill. Be prepared with comfy walking shoes, bottle of water, some snack and meals, with picnic mat, sun glasses, and there you go, a happy enjoyable walk. Several walk paths marked with red, yellow and blue route are your options. There are options to book camping spot, bach or lodge through Auckland Council.

This is a great Regional Park to visit. It's not terribly popular as it's off the beaten track a bit, so that means it's never very crowded.
Be warned though that this park does not access the nearby beach, as the beach is a protected environment and blocked off from access.
There's ample parking and a toilet in the carpark. Do note that there's not any other readily accessible toilets than a portaloo near the centre of the park.
Do take the trail out to the tip of the peninsula as it's a really interesting walk along the ridge out to absolutely spectacular 360 degree views at the end. There's also plenty of room and spots to pick out at the tip for a picnic.

I went here with my husbnd for a walk, not expecting it could be a bit of a hike for a newbie. It was a great piece of land. Awesome views and the peninsula has fantastic view.
Im glad we went there. It was a beauty!
No money spent. Gear up with a comfortable walking shoes, sunnies and a hat. Bring a bottle of water and snacks. You can do picknick and enjoy the fresh air and view.

Started to rain so didn’t stop too long but worth a visit if you can get out to Maraetai first. Beautiful beach east of Auckland

We revisited the Duder Regional park on weekend. The Duder Regional Park is a large coastal farm park located on the pohutukawa fringed Whakakaiwhara Peninsula and offers spectacular 360 degree views.
The car park at the entrance of the park has toilet facilities, maps and the shoes cleaning station for preventing kauri dieback disease.
The park offers many scenic walking tracks. We took nearly two hours to reach the Whakakaiwhara point at the tip of the peninsula

Easy walk through farmland with nice sea views culminating in the walk to the pa site. Very nice for the amount of effort required.

We visited Duder Regional Park many times and it has always been a great place but this time we visited on an ordinary week day. We met a couple of people who were getting their horse ready for a ride along the beach but otherwise did not see anyone. There are of course sheep and cattle dotted around and many birds so you are never alone.
Wonderful views, peace and quiet and very clean.

About how long of a drive from Auckland? Ponsonby area in particular?
Also, how how long of a drive from the airport?
Thank you1

Allow an hour from both locations ....not because it's far but traffic in Auckland at the moment is a real issue unfortunately...... enjoy!! Oh and I would suggest maraitai beach as another cool spot....
