Great museum, one of the best I have visited to date. Unfortunately, I visited on the second to last day before it will close for good. For some strange reason the owners, who are the Newquay council, are not renewing their lease, so that's it. When one considers what it takes to set up a facility such as this, with all the rare irreplaceable exhibits that they maintain, this closure is a true tragedy.

As an aviation anorak, l had to visit this museum, situated adjacent to Newquay Airport.
Positive comments are that the museum is very easy to walk around, and my 11 yr old aviation neophyte niece, was kept interested by the chance to sit in cockpits, and the guides, who talked to her directly.

I was miffed when she as a first timer, landed the simulator on the runway, and l piled into the grass at the side!

The exhibits are to a large extent related to postwar aviation, and seem to be largely ex fleet air arm. So you have Spitfire, Balliol, Sea Hawk, Vampire, Hunter, Lightning, JP, VC10, BAC111(?), Tornado. There was also a V1 flying bomb, and what looked like a plastic Hurricane off to one side. They have an amazing selection of model aircraft,
It also has a useful bookshop which is not expensive, and a cosy cafe.

What are the negatives? It was not the easiest to find.

But the biggest negative is that it is situated on perhaps the largest RAF airfield site in the uk, and somehow Cornwall County Council has decided not to renew their lease, which means some of their airframes, especially the VC10, will end up being scrapped.
That would be absolutely criminal.
I cannot believe that it is not an important tourist attraction.

An informative and extremely interesting visit. Cheerful, knowledgeable and helpful volunteer guides added to the experience.
The centre is easy to find with plentiful parking - which is free! Nicely laid out with a cafe and shop at the entrance and a large variety of aircraft on display outside, including the VC-10 tanker (which was the plane which led the fly past for our late Queen’s 80th birthday, 16 years ago.
There is also the HAS (hardened aircraft shelter), a bombproof hangar where quick reaction aircraft would have been on standby during the Cold War years. This holds displays of models, equipment and yet more aircraft including a rare Boulton Paul Balliol trainer, a Harrier, a Sea Vixen and several cockpits and simulators.
I was most impressed and also dismayed that the County Council seem determined to evict the centre with its irreplaceable exhibits. This seems a very shortsighted view, which will inevitably reduce the Council’s income (there are already several vacant sites on the Hub) and reduce income to the local economy as well.
I certainly hope that agreement can be made between the centre and the council and that I will be able to return with my family next year.

With the sad news that this could be the final day of opening with the threat of closure by Cornwall County Council, I visited this excellent Cornish attraction on the penultimate day yesterday, 30 October 2022. I have visited many times before from Devon and every time there has been something new added to this amazing collection of historic aircraft and artefacts. This was by far the busiest day I had ever witnessed probably due to the fact the museum will possibly not be around in 2023. The attraction is easy to find and signposted well. There are ample spaces for parking and even upon your arrival you can see many outside exhibits. The staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable answering any questions you may have or sharing their own personal aviation stories. The inside exhibits are vast and one of the largest collections of detailed models around. There are simulators, sit in cockpits or sit in complete airframes making this a very interactive venue. The lovely cafe serves the tasty Cornish pasties, sausage rolls and homemade cakes along with other light snacks and hot and cold drinks. The gift shop sells many aviation and museum related items including models, books, clothing to name just a few. You should allow at least half a day but to really take everything in the whole day is recommended.

I am leaving this review to be optimistic that somehow this fabulous and popular Cornish attraction will be saved for future generations to enjoy for many years to come.

Wifey & I visited here today for the first time and the venue was heaving with fellow aircraft enthusiasts. It was so sad to hear the volunteers say that this would probably be their last day. Unless someone tells them tomorrow that they’re safe, they will have 5 months to clear the site. The bigger beautiful aircraft like the VC10, Vickers Varsity, BAC 111 & Canberra will be chopped up, some of the rest will go to the RAF.
I’ve been to many aircraft museums such as Duxford, Hendon & the De Havilland collection but have NEVER seen such different aircraft that you can get in and experience the pilots eye view..
The site is run by a totally enthusiastic team of volunteers who deserve better for their charges..it will such a shame if it does close….this is one worth keeping & preserving as I’d definitely love to come back again.

How many places can you sit in a Hawker Hunter, Harrier and a canberra? Big Kid here and love it.

I grant you there are places with cockpit sections you can get in, but not many with complete planes.

i have to admit we've visited 3 or 4 times every year for the last 5 years of Cornwall holidays and there is always something new to see, whether thats a new airframe or a repainted one in new colours.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the museum shop full of interesting books and very reasonable prices.

The staff of volunteers are amazing, very knowledgable and you can clearly see how devoted they are to the place and its exhibits.

Sadly Cornwall Council have given them notice on their lease and fail to see the value of such an attraction. It will be a very sad day when the museum closes.

The enthusiasm of the 80 strong team of volunteers is very clear as soon as you arrive at this site, based on a Cold War hardened aircraft shelter. This collection deserves a hanger to keep more sea air at bay. It is quite scandalous that the local council wants the museum to close, despite a petition and campaign. Some of the larger aircraft would inevitably be scrapped and Cornwall would lose tourist business..

Great place to bring a family and you learn something too.
Sadly Cornwall Council is in the process of eviction which is sad and unnecessary really. Sustainable longe term tourist attractions like this should be supported, not discouraged.
