First impression was great, with a lovely long driveway through a meadow with sheep grazing either side. We decided to have our picnic here, in the car, as it was a bit chilly outside and picnics are only encouraged in the park. Not the gardens.
Make sure you pick up a map on entering, we weren’t actually offered one.
The gardens are very nice to wander around and we especially like the Rock Garden and its views.
It would have been lovely to finish off with a cake and drink in the tea room, but there was really nothing there to entice us …so we didn’t bother.
So glad we took a picnic lunch or else we’d have just gone hungry.

We had a lovely time at these beautiful gardens, the staff all very friendly but have to agree with other reviews as to the very high prices in the tea room! As I had read the reviews we all decided to bring a picnic but as my husband and I got there earlier than the rest of the family we went in and had a coffee & cup of tea, £7.00! Ok we both squeezed two cups out of coffee & tea pot but would have preferred one cup each at half the price! At the end of our visit I treated the family to an ice cream each, 4 tubs £14!! At that price we decided not have one! Even my favourite, Kingstown Flavoured water was the dearest I have ever seen it………would come back but would not spend anything in the tea room, far too expensive! Shame really…………..

First visit today. I felt the entry price was pretty good really and staff member on the gate was friendly. The gardens are really beautiful and I could have easily spent much much longer wondering around.
The tea room however was really bad. Extremely overpriced, limp salad, and not much choice. Before I could blink I had spent almost £30 on a simple few items and some drinks. Eye watering. There was clearly potato salad available on the plates yet apparently it was not possible to have some potato salad next to a sausage roll. Weird. The cakes tasted stale and quiche was dry.
All in all we would definitely come back to enjoy the gardens but it’ll be packed lunches next time.

This is an oasis of alm and beauty and a hidden gem in Kent.
We frequently visit to relax and enjoy the beautifully kept gardens and features.
Staff are super friendly and ensure you get a genuine welcome.
The tea room served the most enjoyable cakes and refreshments.
One of the nicest places to walk around and enjoy nature.

My husband and I have Joint Annual Membership to Historic Houses (£103), well worth every penny as we have been to 11 different places in the last 9 months.
Its nicer when you can also tour a house with a garden but obviously this isn't always possible when the family live there, as is the case with Doddington. The gardens are only open Wednesdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays so the cafe is quite basic and there is no shop, though there are a few plants for sale.
The gardens are stunning, a lovely place to while away an hour or two. Topiary that you can walk inside, a folly, a Pond, an extensive Rock Garden. There were so many beautiful flowers in bloom that I could not stop taking photos. My favourite part of the garden was the area with benches surrounding the Glass Obelisk, a great place for curious photographs. Go visit!

Went in the pouring rain so the place was empty. The weather didn’t affect the gardens. Lovely flowers in bloom. Not much there, just one cafe place, and toilets. Very natural and undisturbed.

This was not our first visit to Doddington but unfortunately it may well be the last. Within half an hour of entering we had already spent over £50. The entrance fee is now £9 and despite a Google search throwing up NGS 2 for 1 gardens we were told bluntly 'we haven't done that or about 6 years'.
A particular bugbear is that the refreshments are very over priced for miniscule portions. The drinks are also overly expensive.
The garden structure is of course excellent and well maintained and the lawns are cared for but the borders look neglected and are underwhelming, given the cost of entry. We visit many stately home and private gardens and this has been the most disappointing this year. It is still a nice place to visit if you are local, able bodied and can take advantage of the whole grounds, perhaps bringing a picnic instead of relying on the overpriced cafe, but it is just too expensive for us now.

Beautiful Gardens, full of insects and colour. Only spoiler - expensive cake for small slices. Otherwise an afternoon well spent

Doddington Place Gardens has been on my list to visit for a while, and I finally got to visit today, taking my Mum, a wheelchair user, with me. I had read reviews before our visit, mainly to check for wheelchair accessibility, and was encouraged by several reviews, which rated the accessibility as good. The website does say that some parts of the garden are not wheelchair friendly, but much of it is, so I set out with high hopes of being able to push the wheelchair around much of the garden. How disappointing then, to find that getting the wheelchair around was actually pretty hard slog - so much so that our visit only lasted about 30 minutes. Perhaps the wheelchair users and carers who rated the accessibility as good were younger and fitter than me, but I found the pea-shingle paths really hard going. Moving the wheelchair on to the grass proved much easier, but on some of the grass paths, inevitably, you need to manoeuvre over tree roots. I do understand that little can be done to improve this situation - there ARE paths after all, but just want to warn carers who are pushing wheelchairs to expect a some hard work! What we saw of the gardens was lovely, and there is a dusabled toilet that has easy access. I woukd visit again , but not as a wheelchair- pusher!

Thinking of going here but I'm in a wheelchair. What is it like can you get everywhere?
