Hi there, You can climb quite a bit to take photos, but to get a photo from the top you have to pay for a ticket. That said, the views are amazing from the castle, especially the gardens with the mountains behind. If you're coming all the way from Miami Beach you might as well go all out! Hi there, It's probably best to rent a car. While the castle is accessible by public transportation, from Geneva the trip is twice as long as in a car. Hope to see you soon!

Hi Christina, In the reviews on tripadvisor, there is sometimes a confusion between the castle and the fortfied city of Gruyères. Walking into the city is totally free and really nice. You can see, among others, fortified walls, the central place of Gruyères, the facade of the "Chalamala" house and the church. To visit the Castle, you will need an entrance ticket that gives you access to a 20 minutes long movie, the historical collections, the temporary exhibitions, the panoramic esplanade, the ramparts and the gardens (during spring and summer). The visit takes from 45 minutes (if you skip some explanations and don't go everywhere) to 2 hours if you want to see everything. If you don't have much time, you can walk around the castle as Deirdre suggested. This will give you a nice point of view on the surrounding landscape and take around ten minutes if you go slowly and take pictures. Afterwards, if you want a drink, you could try the Giger bar which is an amazing place but I wouldn't recommend it with kids (there is no entrance fee but they expect you to consume something if you want to get in). To visit Gruyères, I would recommend to plan at least 2 hours, even if you don't enter any museum. That place is so nice and peaceful that everything you do is slower! Best regards, Patrick

From Geneva airport to Gruyeres was around 4 hours with a lot of intermediate stations using trains mostly. The route was like Geneva-Lossane-Paleziex-Bulle-Gruyeres. You have to change train many times but the view is amazing and also you can see smaller cities in between Geneva and Gruyeres. After you treach Gruyeres the castle is 10' walking from then train station!

Hello I just stayed there. You would have to contact the hotel for reservations. it is a lovely hotel and I think they would have places that far in advance. Be sure to get a balcony room at the back overlooking the mountains.
