We took the beautiful scenic drive down Hwy 1 south from Pebble Beach to reach Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. It's very curvy in places so if you're prone to car sickness, sit in the front seat. Entrance to the park is a $10/car fee that's also good for entry in to any other state park on the same day. Although we went mid-week (3/26/2024) there were plenty of people in the park and yet we had no problem parking for day use. We hiked the Buzzards Roost loop (~4 miles RT) . It's a lush trail in the shade (from the redwoods) until you get to the top of the viewpoint. Gradual uphill grade most of the way up amongst the mountain iris, flowers, redwoods, and poison oak (be careful, it's on both sides of the trails). Plan on 2-3 hours if you plan on a hike. We didn't go on the trail to see the falls... that's for next time.

I was ready to submit this when I saw the news that the heavy rains on 3/30/2024 took out part of Hwy 1 so you can't reach any of the Big Sur Parks!

This is a very impressing state park with several trails in the redwood forest. Many trees are very large. But of course there are many other plants to see and if you are luck some wildlife.

We visited Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park because much of the Julia Pfeiffer park trails were closed due to fires, slides etc. This was an excellent alternative. We took the falls and valley view hikes which are connected. They were wonderful even on a cloudy, rather dreary day. The trails were easy to navigate and we met enough other hikers on the trail to ensure we were going in the right direction. The view of the small falls was lovely and the valley view was definitely worth the uphill hiking. We really enjoyed this morning of hiking.

We hiked up a trail and had great views in the different trails, some where more challenging better suited for advances hikers.

This is a very well run and maintained state park.

A natureza é muito generosa neste lugar do Planeta. O Big Sur é sem dúvida um dos trechos mais lindos da Pacific 1. Praias lindas com águas azuis e formações vulcânicas. Para ir com calma, curtir e sonhar.

We were in the area so decided to visit the park to go on some of their trails. The park has a lodge and a restaurant, which has a cafe side. We picked up some lattes from there. We went on the Valley View and Pfeiffer Falls hikes. Even though we paid for the park entrance, we later realized that some people had parked in the lodge parking in order to avoid the state park fees. So that’s an option, as the trails that we went on passed the lodge. Trails, etc were all well maintained. Wish they would put more signs about exact length and intensity level of each trail. Overall, a good visit.

A super cute and awesome state park! A small lodge and store with not much parking, but the main parking lots beyond the pay gate are quite large and lead to a wide variety of long and short trails. Some are big elevation changes with amazing vistas and some are shorter and flatter and more shaded or along the river.

i hiked the newly reopened valley view to pfeiffer falls trail loop and posted a video that includes a vlog, tips and suggestions for all hiking levels, so future visitors can be prepared for the journey to come. you can find a link to my youtube on my profile or you can look me up by name “nikko gandia”.

highly trafficked trail. overflow parking right outside the entrance. the whole loop is about 3 miles and 700ft of elevation gain. recommend going clockwise to see the falls last and because the decent is easier imo.

falls only hike - i recommend going on the east side of the trail, it’s about 2 miles out and back. shorter, easier and more scenic imo.

This park was easy to find and you can park at the lodge to explore a small part. The trails weren't marked super well, but there was an abundance of red roods to see.
