A very real effort has been made by the organisers and their collection of memorabilia is first class for a regional city. Displays are well laid out and you can see the effort which has gone into the museum. Well worth a visit.

We have frequented this very informative Museum a number of times but from the information I have currently, it is temporarily closed.
It is a sad time for the visitor who happens upon Toowoomba at the present time. Please check the next time you visit as it is well worthy of spending a whole day to appreciate the extensive displays and information available.

Having recently lived in Alatau Milne Bay Papua New Guinea I was drawn to this places name. This smallish Museum actually surprised me as I elarned more here than when in PNG though I of course experienced and saw things over there where emotion and love for the Aussie Digger still runs high. There graves were made where men fell and are still maintained to this day by family in the bush. But here in Australia so far from Milne Bay it was amazing to find such a storehouse of knowledge. There was a tremendous guide who was himself very knowledgeable and very able to share it. There was needed photographic identification before we began as this is on government Commonwealth property. There were sections here on all the various conflicts besides Milne Bay and would be more than suitable to provide historians or students wanting to see how their Grandfathers lived, fought and died across the globe. There are displays and so much more to see I would prefer to intrigue you rather than spoil things. take your camera and record all you can. You will come away more sober in mood but more respectful of those who believed they ought to fight for our or the worlds freedom. I am not a millitary person and indeed a pacifist but am still drawn to see about conditions our youth were forced to live in and wonder about their alst thoughts and experiences of terror and idealism. I do not understand but respect those who believe passionately about anything--and look forward to when nothing remains on this planet about war but these historic reminders of how we as pathetic humans tried to solve unsolvable world problems and achieved nothing but pain. loss and death of the ebst of us.

We went there on an open day.
The museum is jam packed with items, but also some very informative sections setting out key points in the Milne Bay campaign (which has strong local and regional links via service by the local militia/reserve unit) and also earlier campaigns from WW1 and even the Boer War.
It is all a reminder of struggle and sacrifice by people who often were just local residents from towns and off farms who did their bit in military service.
