Built in his Organ School’s garden, a generous act on behalf of the school so that he can save the travelling.
When you arrive, press the door bell to the study room. A staffer will come bring you to the memorial, a five-second walk into the garden. She’ll turn on everything for you and most importantly let Janacek’s music fill up the house.
A guidebook translates every caption in the exhibition hall. Yay for effort.
1. You will see his personal items down to a rail card and a passport.
2. Janacek does rough sketches for his opera’s set. This is to be further worked out by professional designers.
3. A lot can be seen from how people write. If he’s to be entered for the worst score penmanship it would be a tied-neck race with W. A. Mozart. And his late-romanticism makes it even harder to have his notes deciphered from their tonal context.

Vienna is proud of Mozart, Prague boasts about Smetana and Dvorak. The young Mozart visited Brno and Janacek was brouht to this city in the age of 11 to become a gifted singer, later a piano and organ player. His teacher Krizkovsky found him problematic but recommended his studies. Janacek studied music in Prague and abrod too. His return to Brno is connected to the fact, that in 1881, Janacek founded the organ school. He himself was appointed the director of the organ school and held this post until 1919. In 1920 Janacek retired from his post as director of the Brno Conservatory but continued to teach until 1925. Janacek as the composer learnt from his folklorist activities and ability being human, ie.enjoy big emotions in his life full of conflicts, passion and pain too. Each visit to the Janacek memorial is a sort of celebration for me for my great grand father used to be one of many Janacek students. Our family claims that our ancestor was very special, I know he had to be pretty naughty.

This is a small house with the composer's piano and some artifacts on display. It won't take you long - a half-hour at most - to examine them. But if you love this great composer's music it's worth a short trip out of your way and a bit of your time.

Surprisingly, you can easily walk past this small house situated behind the old opera house, close to the Continental hotel. In fact, I did! A few times!
It is interesting that such a world-renowned composer should have lived in such modest (albeit pleasant) surroundings. For a small entrance fee you can view a number of rooms which still contain the original furnishings, including his piano, and this gives a good idea of the man himself. At times it is quite poignant, especially the effect that his daughter's death had on him. There are also some display cabinets with original annotated scores and programmes of early productions. All in all an intimate insight into Janancek and his world.

Památník Leoše Janáčka v Brně je hezký z venku i uvnitř. Mistrova busta na nás shlíží z fasády domu a je zajímavé chodit místy, která znal i sám Janáček.

A really excellent production plus the wonderfully stylish sets made for a very special evening. The lead singer gave a polished performance. Could not have enjoyed the evening more

Janáček lived in this little house from 1910 until his death in 1928. There is a modest exhibition and some interesting documentaries to see. It is a surprisingly small house for such a creative and important life. If you love Janáček and you're in Brno, visit this important memorial house. Janáček lived a complicated life and this is only peripherally mentioned in the exhibition.

This small house contains a treasure of Janacek memorabilia. One room has chairs so visitors can view videos of Janacek's works. A second room is the parlor which houses Janacek's grand piano, desk and furnishings. The third room contains autographs of scores (including Jenufa and Katya Kabanova), musical sketches, drawings, and family photos. A small room by the entry serves as the administrative office and shop where one can buy books about Janacek (though not music scores).
