We hiked the Julian Alps using bookatrekking to arrange our accommodation.
Whilst the hiking, scenery and people of Slovenia are exceptional our experience with bookatrekking was very disappointing.
The mountain huts are very basic. All but one of them had no shower facilities and only very basic toilets. Sleeping arrangements were very basic and crowded and we were not allowed to access our shared room till late afternoon. Drinking water needed to be purchased at 6EU for a litre.
None of this was communicated to us beforehand by Bookatrekking.
We paid for a night in a hotel at the start and finish of our hike but my adult daughter and I were allocated to a shared room with a shared bed. Other members of our group were given their own room despite the fact that we all paid the same amount. Bookatrekking has taken no responsibility for this inequity.
Highly recommend Slovenia
Don’t recommend Bookatrekking

Awesome !!! There is a circuit from Bled through the entire Triglav national park but it takes around 6-7 hours as it is very winding. We went to: Kranjska Gora, Lake Jasna, Ruska kapelica, Vrsic (the highest point). Beautiful!!!

Recommend driving the Vrsic Pass as there are loads of places to stop and admire the Alps. The scenery is simply stunning.

Great views on the way up the road and a fantastic shory hike to the saddle. The road can be really busy and a bit stressful.

I booked the one day Julian Alps tour starting in Lake Bled and ending in Ljubljana through the recommendation by Rick Steve in his guidebook for 230 euros for three of us. Tina picked us up from our Lake Bled hotel at 9 am and the tour ended at our hotel in Ljubljana at about 6.30 pm. This tour is highly recommended as Tina told us so much both about Slovenians' way of life and the places we visited. She is passionate about this tour and showed us as much as she could.
We were amazed by the beauty of all the places she stopped at. She loves driving and going up and down Vrsic Pass to Soca Valley was a smooth journey. We had good weather and it only rained when we were driving back to Ljubljana.
We enjoyed the tour as Tina is an experienced, kind and lovely lady so it was great to spend a day in her company. We are really glad that we have this Julian Alps experience while visiting Slovenia. A must do.

I had heard about an ice-climbing course in Slovenia and decided to sign up for it. I was not disappointed. We had world-class Himalayan alpinists as our guides (Tomaz, Urbi, Andre, and Luka) and a great selection of routes to climb, even if some of us had limited experience. Of course, the weather conditions are different from day to day and year to year but we had good weather conditions for climbing 6 out of 7 days. We don't have this kind of ice or multi pitch routes or guiding near NYC, so this was a special treat.

The road from Bovec to Kobarid I can recommend to get an impression of the beauty of the nature of the Julian Alps. The road follows for a large part the river Soca, well known for the rafting sport. Take your time and stop frequently to take pictures.

Along the main roads through the Julian Alps there are plenty of places to pull over and grab a photo or two. Wonderful scenery and breathtaking mountain views

What roads do we take from Lubijana to the Julian Alps to see magnificent scenery?

We're planning a 5 day hike through the mountains of triglav national park on Tuesday 21st - Sat 25th August. The weather forecast says it's due to rain most of Tuesday then all day Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We have some experience of mountain walking but not expert by any means.
1) Do you think it will be safe to go? e.g. How clear are the paths?
2) Do you think it will be worth going? Will we have any views or will we just be walking through clouds?

For our visit (10 days ago) rain and storms were forecast for 5 of the 7 days... There were storms in the evening most days, lasting around half an hour each, but every day was bone dry. I don't know where to find the most accurate forecast for the area. The routes we saw were pretty clear, but we didn't hike across the centre of the park

Hi. My husband and I are planning a walking holiday in the Julian Alps. Where could we stay so that we could go for long walks daily?
Thanks

I'm taking a group of no more than 12 on a hut to hut hiking trip. Can anyone recommend a shuttle service that could pick us up at the end of the trip and return us to either Trenta or Ljubljana? I've found that many organizers, often out of Britain, are quite expensive, and think surely there's a local transportation service that is reasonable. Thank you.
