Important to note:
-Last gas station is in Maple Falls (not Glacier)
-The last few miles to Artist’s Point are usually still blocked by snow into June. Check the Visitors Center before you come if you want the views from the top.
-Trailhead theft is an issue. Don’t leave valuables in your car.

Despite being a PNW resident since the mid-90s (and having had Mount Baker loom over every view no matter which coastal town I'm in), I only decided to venture out to see it last summer. I cannot say I was disappointed.

I was stunned by the absolute beauty on the drive up, and then the glacier views and meadows absolutely blew me away. Every view was absolutely heavenly and picturesque. Never a bad view no matter which trail you went on.

Although there’s not a lot to see we enjoyed the drive. We did stop and see the Amazing Nooksack Falls & Heather Meadows. We took a short hike there. There are a number of hikes varying in length. Amazing views there. You can not go any farther as road is closed due to road work. We made a few other short stops along the way. Great way to spend a few hours.

This is an amazing drive. We drove out of Bellingham in mid June. It was a cloudy morning and there was a lot of mist moving against the mountains. The trees all along the way are amazing and the closer we got to Picture Lake the more snow there was on the ground. Our only disappointment was that the road was closed just after Picture Lake and we couldn't go all the way to artists point. Highly recommended.

This summer we spent a week in Washington state covering North Cascades and Mt Rainier National Parks. We stayed for 3 nights in Glacier, Washington and drove through the Mt Baker Scenic Byway for 2 consecutive days. This drive took us through Washington’s Cascade Range had so much to offer with stunning scenery!

The drive gets difficult in certain places and you need to very careful negotiating the steep curves, twists and turns - please be very focused and careful. That said, there are multiple spots to stop and enjoy the nature along the way as you get closer towards Artist Point - particularly the Picture Lake location is a sight to watch and enjoy. With Mount Shuksan in the background and the wildflowers in the foreground, Picture lake is, well, as pretty as, a post card picture!

Expect the road to be a little busy in summer and the Artist Point parking lot to be a lot more crowded. There are a couple of beautiful hikes at the Artist Point – that offer stunning panoramic views of Mt Baker and Mt Shuksan - - take your time, be patient, respect nature and enjoy!

Must do if you are visiting Washington state in summer! Absolutely great for hiking and photography!

We really enjoyed driving the Mount Baker Scenic Byway. We especially enjoyed stopping at Picture Lake and taking pictures of Mount Shuksan with its reflection in the lake. We also spent time walking around Artist Ridge, taking many pictures of Mount Baker and many other beautiful Mountain Ridges. The area is enjoyed by both local and visitors galore.
Watch your step, be prepared to walk and hike some. This experience would be one I would come back to for sure if blessed again to do so in the future.

We made the drive on a clear, picture-perfect day and were not disappointed. At Artist’s Point you are surrounded by grandeur and it seems you can see forever. Due to an injury we could not hike, only admire from the overlooks...so, we will have to come back another time.

We travelled the stretch from Maple Falls to Artist Point early July. The road had just been cleared from snow. The views along the drive were amazing. Bring a sweater, even when it's sunny it can be chilly in the mountains.

This road rises from the are near Noonsack Falls and eventually gets you to the Baker Mountain Ski Area as well as lots of great hiking trails.

The road is well built and maintained, when we drove it they were re-tarring a section so while it smelt a bit like fresh tar we knew the road was being made safer for others. There are quite a few places to pull off and take pictures but be careful for passing vehicles.
