I'd heard about the gems within this building so made sure to book a tour during my visit. I was greeted by a magnificent Vermont granite staircase when I walked in. Wow, as they say...

It was just me and my docent and quite the informative session. In addition to learning about the history of the organization, there was a detailed exhibit on the role of the Red Cross during WW1...everything from bandage rolling to female drivers in service abroad. There were historical posters (done by famous artists in some cases), photos galore, and beautiful items gifted from other countries on display. Clara Barton, the foundress, has a special case of personal items shown. And the final treats were the opulent, splendid Tiffany windows in the upstairs conference room.

Tours are free and offered on Wednesdays and Fridays. The building is just down 17th from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and next door to the HQ of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Like many things in Washington DC admission and tour are free here. However there are only two days a week, Wednesday and Friday, I believe that it is open to the public. There are only a couple of tours each day and it is best to contact the red cross for reservations.

Our tour guide/archivist met us in the lobby and took a total of four of us for an hour tour. The hallways on the first floor are filled with memorabilia nd pictures from the history of the red cross. The second floor has some amazing Tiffaney windows in the ballroom.

this one is off the beaten path in numbers of tourists but it is a great place to check out.

The amazingly beautiful building of the American Red Cross. Its stately architecture helps it easily blend in with the other Capital Hill, White House, and other buildings. I’m surprised that the US headquarters would be on such expensive real estate and so close to the major government buildings of the USA. This is a world-respected organization, working to reduce the suffering of the wounded disadvantaged. This is both the operating US headquarters and a museum of Red Cross artifacts and works of art and other pieces donated to the Red Cross. Prized pieces include three very beautiful Tiffany stained glass windows. Tours of the building are free but are only available at 10 am and 2 pm, on Wednesdays and Fridays.

I was walking past and saw this building. Was very beautiful as the lighted up. I don't believe much on their work compare to other charity. As their percentage of the money go toward the charity is very little.

But nevertheless the building is beautiful and I do believe in the past they do meant good before politic come involves.

The head quarter of the American Red Cross in very close to the National Mall, the President's Park (the White House and other iconic attention in D.C. If you plan to be in the area to view the White House and other memorials on the west side of the National Mall, add this tour of the Red Cross in your agenda. In fact, it is not a museum but the tour of the building includes many museum items (significant to Red Cross) on display for visitors. The building is still in use as regular office building. The tour is only on Wednesday and Friday and it last around 30-45 minutes (10 am and 2 pm). Do not get there too much ahead of time, the guard will not let you in. (5 minutes before time). The whole building was built with Vermont marble with much beautiful details. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and display items are great. After the building tour, visitors are free to walk around a beautiful garden in the back of the main building. Worth the time and great place to learn about Red Cross. Best to secure your spot is to call or email in advance.

This museum in located several blocks from the White House and shows an interesting collection of items related to the work the Red Cross does. The most interesting features to see are the Tiffany Stained Glass windows. The look fresh and beautiful and will take your breath away on a sunny day.

The American Red Cross has helped a lot of people over the years and their building is nice. There are things from history. I liked the building itself quite a bit. It's right across from the park. You can see the Washington monument from the front steps.
