Newest National Park was a wonderful experience. Stopped at all the visitor centers and was helpful with selecting trails in the area to hike. All rangers were very knowledgeable.
Did a whitewater rafting trip and got to experience the Bridge from a river view. Al lot to see and do. Wish we had more than a week to explore.

This area is so beautiful, one of America's great National Park areas. The Visitor Centers are very well run and educational. We did fishing, rafting, zip lines, hiking. So many options. The dining here is also great.

We went over spring break for our children. So it was March, 2024. Spring has not started yet but still a great time to experience this area. But summer and fall would also be nice. I recommend this location, we enjoyed checking out the area and enjoyed doing the bridge walk and then taking a tour down to the bottom of the gorge

In terms of awe-striking beauty and splendor, and second only to the coastline of Ireland, is New River Gorge, WV. Standing at the bottom of the bridge on a shallow beach was unlike anyplace I have ever been. If you have trouble walking, you will still enjoy everything! We needed to drive to the ends of trails rather than hike them. I was able, with use of a cane, to walk around and experience the saturation of senses. We even drove through the ghost town of Thurmond, WV (population 5) and were able to walk along the sidewalk by the railroad tracks. Incredible, exhilarating miles and miles of trail riding for ATVs, and so much to see! The beauty is raw and clean despite the coal mines. The air is crisp and cool. The people are nice (Except the staff at Pies n Pints). We pulled our little 21’ travel trailer and stayed at The Outpost campground. For tent camping, or if renting one of their darling little in-the-trees chateaus, there is no better place on earth. The RV sites have full hook ups, but they are only 6-8 feet apart. The location of The Outpost is PRIME REAL ESTATE! It sits directly at the base of the main trails. Five Stars. A+, Gold Star. Absolute best place to stay for Bridge Day!!!!

Wonderful trails for walking and hiking. There is an informative visitor's center that you should go to before you explore. You also learn a lot about the history of the region. However, the stars of the area are the bridge and the river activities.

I cannot just say there was one special place but from the bridge over the gorge, all the scenery around it, all the other parks around it and all the historical places we had a wonderful time. Took so many pictures.

Many interesting views, trails and a wonderful visitor center. I can recommend this new National Park as being well worth a visit, and I have been to 61 of the 63 NPs! We hiked several of the recommended trails and the views and ecologically interesting parts were outstanding.

We have wanted to go here for a long time and were worried that it would be crowded not that it has a National Park designation, but it was not. In fact, we did some hikes where we did not see other people. The views are amazing and the people we met in the area were very friendly. Loved gazing at the bridge, hiking, rafting, swimming and enjoying the history of the area. Great family vacation.

I arrived after the national park closed, thanks to traffic. My review is based on spending an hour and a half walking around the New River Gorge near the visitor's centre and taking advantage of the excellent boardwalk that parallels the highway.
New River Gorge deserves at least a three hour trip to really appreciate the natural beauty. It's stunning and I regret not spending more of my trip here. Access is easy through several points off the Interstate. Parking lots are large, indicating just how popular this place is. We came on a misty, humid August afternoon right around closing and still saw a healthy number of visitors coming to check things out. Trust them, it's worth it even for a 30 minute break.
The national park visitor's centres are stocked with brochures, information, and maps. Unfortunately the washrooms are locked up after they close and there were no outdoor washrooms or outhouses that I could find.
The boardwalk paths lead down to several overlooks for the New River Gorge bridge, which is a stunning architectural accomplishment. It's the largest bridge of its arched design in the western hemisphere, and when wreathed in mist, the girders and struts take on a peculiarly weightless, otherworldly quality. Several vantage points provide a sense of its scale, which is massive, and that only improves as you get closer. I did not sadly have time to do the walk along the bridge, but highly recommend it.

Even though there was a soft rain falling, we really enjoyed our visit to New River Gorge. The scenery was beautiful and the walk down to the look out points provided some good exercise! I believe there are over 200 steps down to the lowest level. The NPS just took over management of this park and are doing a great job.

Does anyone know if there will still be any fall foliage left first weekend of November? Figuring it’s past peak but wasn’t sure if it would be completely brown by then or not.

It's past peak but there were still a decent amount of leaves on the trees the first weekend of November last year. The colors were more brown/yellow since it was past peak but it was still pretty.

The Long Point trail - the return trip back from the lookout - is it relatively easy?

There is a place to fish close to the bridge. You have to find a small steel bridge at the bottom of the gorge. Cross it, and you’ll find a place to fish along the road.

Try Chestnut Creek Campgrounds in Lansing WV. I'm pretty sure they have tent camping but not 100% sure
