A good hike with some challenges
déc. 2021
A good hike with some challenges. I will strongly recommend to hike it together with friends or with a professional travel guide together. Don't do it solo since it is quite steep and rocky and some parts actually are quite challenging.

I went there for just experiencing nature, not really a hiker. I was so lucky to have a local to serve as the guide and company. I still feel challenges and several times I stepped on the rolling stones and slid. Fortunately, I was not hurt.

I will also recommend to bring your walking poles if you have. Hike slowly and pay attend to the road situation.

Trail-5 Islamabad: A climber's opinion
sept. 2021
I am a frequent visitor of Trail-5 and other Margalla trails as these mountain trails are my primary exercise area. Trail-5 like other Margalla Trails can give you an elevation gain of 500 to 600 meters. It's a network of five trails comprising Trail-5, Trail-5 A, Trail-5 B, Trail-5 C and Trail-5 Fire Lanes. I have repeatedly tracked all of them numerous times so far and have developed a solid climbing gait. Besides, I have also tracked on some gullies, ridges, unmapped  branch trails, tracks and other non track areas of these trails. During my prolonged hike sessions I have also encountered the famous snow leopard (Guldar) besides other wildlife like barking deers, iguanas, civet cats, red foxes and snakes. Wild boars, kaleej  Pheasants and monkeys are in  abundance and a common sight for everyone. People  go to these  trails with various motives. Some are only casual recreational hikers. Others can be  climbing enthusiasts who are serious climbers and go to the trails only to fulfil their climbing passion and to keep them physically fit. I keep an ultralight backpack which contains water, towels, eatables, first aid kit and emergency survival kit all weighing under three kgs. I have also looped to Tilla Charouni and Makhniyal Top from Trail-5 parking. I love climbing these trails so much that they will remain are a part of me as long as I can do them.

Nice trail through Margalla hills
mars 2021
I walked here with a guide who took me up via the steeper and quieter routes. The route can get busy so starting early is wise. I did a circuit which went up Trail 5 but descended a quieter path near Route 3. Good to go with someone who knows the various options available

Fresh air and beautiful scenes
avr. 2021 • Entre amis
I went there with my friends, it was really fun and the scenes were really beautiful, but to me the most important thing is the fresh air and the nature vibes.

Refreshing Hike under the trees in summer heat
juill. 2020 • En famille
The trail 5 is situated almost at the end of margalla road. It is almost 5km trail. The good thing about it is, it has initial 1.8km trail straight without any steep hike. So, people who cannot hike steep heights due to any issues can easily enjoy the first 1.8km without any difficulties. After that you can either continue on trial 5 or one can take the bypass route to trail 3 as well. After 1.8km the real hike starts which is the steep one and non regular hikers can face some difficulties and might have to take frequent stops for catching breath. Always keep water bottle and some snacks with you. At 3km there is small water stream and stop over or endpoint for some. After this point the hike is not too steep. It is recommended to wear rubber sole shoes.

I love this hike.
juill. 2020
We are expatriates and live and work in Islamabad. Trail 5 is one of our favorites as it is close to our home, great place for BIRDING, and the stream that runs along it is so refreshing. It really is lovely and there are trails that divert off if there are too many people on the main trail. It can get crowded at times - but not as crowded as trail 3. Have only experienced it spring and summer months - looking forward to automn and start of winter for change of seasons. Right now is pre-monsoon season - so it hot and dry - but there is still some of the stream running in the middle bit. WIth shade and this stream it is still bearable in the heat - so long as one goes early morning.

Trail-5 different routes
oct. 2019
I have hiked in Margallahs for many years and have experience of different trails including trail 3, 5 and 6. Trail 3 and 5 are near to one another and interconnected. one can go on trail and take connecting to reach the other. Both originate at the northern end of Margallah Road along F-5/F6 and separated by just half a kilometer distance. Trail 6 originates from behind Faisal Mosque several kilometers from trail 3 and is not connected with the other trails.
At start of trail 5 there is a tourist information center which can guide the trackers about the route. A fresh water stream welcomes you when you start tracking. After crossing the stream the hike is gradual for about two kilometers. One crosses several fresh water streams during the time.
For a more strenuous hikers at 1.3 kilometers from the base point a path goes right across the stream and joins the main track at about 3 kilometers. It is very steep route and goes through thick forest. It is not advisable to use it late in the day.
At this trail becomes very steep. Half a kilometer on the route one finds a fresh water spring..The water is refreshing and drinkable About fifty yards before the spring a path goes right. Taking the path takes you to trail three. An off shoot from that track goes up and joins normal trail 5 at top of the hill.
From the spring the trail elevation is a bit gradual than the previous 500 meters but still quite steep. Two and half kilometers up the trail joins Islamabad-Zoo Pirswahwa Road, about a kilometer ahead of famous Monhal Restaurant. Form here one can come back from the same route of use texi or public transport to come back to base point.
As already said the trail goes through thick forest any deviation from the main route can make you lost in the jungle.
There are no mobile signals on quite a few points on the track. Travelers are advised to keep a stick, torch, water and something to eat with them.
The whole route has thick wood cover. It is

A Pleasant and Challenging Experience
oct. 2019
A wonderful activity and one should undertake hiking atleast once or twice in a month and preferably as couples / families / friends but not recommended for kids under 15 as it would be quite tiresome and a bit dangerous too. The first 2 kms or less is quite gradual and one does come across few streams as well. However, after 2 kms their is sudden sharp ascend for few hundred meters and thereafter it again becomes a gradual climb. Most of the track is shaded apart from initial few hundred meters. Never tried it till Pir Sohawa as we retuen from the mid point and descend is also equally challenging. Mobile coverage on the trail is not good and it would be better that you do inform someone about your activity before proceeding on trail, in case of any emergency. Must carry along a water bottle and walking / hiking stick. An excellent physical facility and activity and preferably to be done in morning hours. After hike, Kohsar Market is close by for a sumptous breakfast but one should earn it first by doing atleast 3 hours of hike.

Beautiful and straining hike
sept. 2019
This is a good hike, the type that some mountaineers would be acclimated to do. Perhaps it was my waning physical stamina, I found the trek to be very challenging in terms of distance. Trail 5 starts out at a nice stream and patchy rock paths then leads to higher areas where springs and waterfalls glisten the rocks. A valuable place for shade and rinsing yourself to go on further. The streams of water really make it a pleasant 'walk' up to this point.

After the 2km mark is where it gets steep and sharp. The elevation continues relentlessly for several 100 meters and one will need to catch their breath often. At this stage, I felt I might have taken a wrong turn and the path meandered off the trail map into tight and steep territory. One had to climb using hands at some point and the trail zig-zagged off into the North Eastern part of the mountain. It was thick jungle territory and I couldn't make it to the top towards the main junction. I trailed back through thickets of jungle shortcuts.

I recommend to turn westwards joining the Trail 3 for better panoramas of the city.
