In the old part of Sarajevo, within walking distance from the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin, on the central square of the city - Liberation Square (Trg oslobođenja) - I captured, at first glance, an unremarkable monument, the name of which interested me. “Spomenik multietničkom čovjeku” or monument to the Multicultural Man. I didn’t look for it on purpose, but came across it by chance when I was rushing to the temple mentioned above. I can roughly imagine what “cultural” is. But here’s a “multicultural” person, and also a person...
As it turned out, this is a monument to a certain homo sapiens who is building a new world. The statue of a man in a nude suit, standing in the center of a symbolic globe and as if “pulling” together the meridians of the globe, is surrounded by doves. This monument is a gift from the Italian Government, which was made in 1997 and, at its core, symbolizes, in addition to peace in the entire new world, tolerance.
The pedestal of the sculpture is very unusual - personally, it reminded me of the tail of a huge bomb. The inscription on it reads: “Multiculturalni covjek izgradjivace svijet” (A multicultural person builds the world). They also say that this monument is a symbol of modern Bosnia, where representatives of three world religions coexist in peace and harmony: Catholicism, Orthodoxy and Islam. I would add Judaism here - Jews and their places of worship are present in the city. The author of the monument is the Italian artist and sculptor Francesco Perilli. His artistic direction is neutralism, or neutralist art, the manifesto of which was written by the Master himself.
Mr. Perilli is also an active promoter of the recognition of tattoos as art. Few people know that the statue of the Multicultural Man exists on four continents: the first was installed in Toronto, Canada in 1985, the second in Sarajevo in 1997, the third in 2002 in Changchun, China, and the fourth in 2006 in East London ( SOUTH AFRICA). A fifth monument was also planned - in Australian Whittlesea (like “close” all the continents), but something didn’t work out... I can’t say that the Sarajevo Spomenik multietničkom čovjeku is just “ah”, but if it happens to be on your route, then I advise you to get acquainted.

This sculpture is the work of Italian artist Francesco Perilli. The sculpture depicts a man, inside a half sphere formed by lines holding up doves. The human figure represents the universal man. He is depicted without a face, hair or clothing, to avoid characteristics that identify race, ethnicity or custom. Below the sculpture, there is a plaque with the message Multicultural man will build the world. Let's hope so.

This monument was covered with pigeon and a bit of snow when we went. It took a bit to figure out which was a real pigeon and which was actually with the statue when were there.
The monument represents the melting pot that is a culturally diverse city of Sarajevo.

Located just off Ferhadija,(shopping street), Within a lovely green space stands this sculpture, dedicated to the multi-ethnicity of man, it is quite appropriate that its positioning is within the major religious symbols of Sarajevo.

This is an interesting looking sculpture in a park next to the pedestrian walkway. During the Christmas season, it is next to an ice rink and an ice house.

This sculpure which I understand was given to the city by the Italians stands in a small park close to the Serbian Cathedral and is meant to symbolise the different cultures that live side by side within the city.

It's located in a nice, quiet park. A great place for a break on your sightseeing day.
If you've never seen old men playing gigantic-sized chess on a pavement in the middle of a park, this is a place to go!
