Beautiful place, enjoyed the weather over there, as the temperature when we visited felt like below 0° despite bright sunshine. Being located at an altitude of 9397 ft. and looked after by the administration as nobody lives nearby. At this time we were allowed till this point on the way to Rohtang Pass.

We had a view of Gulaba town from our cab on our trip to Rohtang pass. There is a check post at Gulaba where the permits are verified. There was no snow at Gulab when we reached there.

If you plan to visit Rohtang pass, there is a check point at Gulaba. You have to have an ONLINE (only) permit to go beyond this point. Ensure you have this permit before hand especially for diesel vehicles (as they have a daily quota for diesel vehicles) and you might have to return back if you don't have this permit. For petrol vehicles the staff will assist for the permit OR you hire a local cab to go up till Rohtang pass.
Good to keep this in mind before visiting Rohtang pass.
You may want to go up till Rohtang pass and descend into the Lahaul side and come back to Manali via the Atal tunnel.

We went here in March when Rohtang was closed due to snow. The trip to Gulaba Camp can easily be combined with other attractions. Our itinerary was:
1. Solang Valley
2. Atal Tunnel
3. Sissu lake
4. Gulaba Camp
5. Kothi
The entire trip took us 9 hours including stops at all the places.
As for Gulaba, this is as far as the vehicles are allowed to go in the winters. We were the only ones in the place when we visited Gulaba. The solitude of the place along with the setting sun amidst the snow-covered mountains was mesmerizing. A must-visit place, preferably in the eveneing.

We were unable to visit Rohtang in last week of MArch as it was closed at that time. we went upto gulaba. We took a horse ride and went upto the road from where the Rohtang is visible. it was a ride of more than 5-6 km through a off road. But the overall journey was just breath taking. Finally we reached to a point where we could enjoy snow, we did skiing, We sat on the empty road and snows are lying on the other sides of the road. We enjoyed thoroughly.

The road to Rohtang was closed due to bad weather so on recommendation of locals we opted to check out Gulaba and this place didn’t disappoint us! It’s about 45 mins drive up the old Rohtang route. We drove upto the gulaba check post point and snowy route was mesmerising! If you’re not used to driving in the snow, I recommend you hire a gypsy which would charge you about 2.5-3k from the Solang valley.

Gulaba is situated on the way to Rohtang Pass. It is a beautiful place surrounded by snow capped mountains. We visited there on January 2021. We enjoyed the snow capped mountains and snow all around. Feeling was awesome. Its no less than heaven.
We could go only till Kothi by car due to snow on the roads. So we hired a mountain bike to go to Gulaba. Ride was a bit expenive but was worth it. The ride was a life time experience. We also had a ride on snow scooter in Gulaba. We played with snow and made snowman. Really a great experience

Where can you see snow in Manali in early December and what is taxi cost?

Depends year to year. Most probably you will see snow in the upper reaches of Golaba and Solang valley. Taxi cost varies between 2.5K to 3.5K depending on how far you are going.

If you are travelling with family prefer local can or taxi they know the terrain better, secondly if you planned a day visit leave very early say by 7:30 am and at least you will get some good parking spot.

Hi all, We are planning trip to Manali in the May month end and I would like to include Gulaba in the package. Is this place fine for 2 year old kid? Can I place Gulaba with Solang Valley ? Can these two places can be covered in a single day?

Yes you can cover both the places in a day. Starts early as possible for Gulaba , It's a very narrow road , so earlier you leave better will it be for you to come back early ,else you can get stuck in traffic . I recommend leave early so that you reach Gulaba by 7/8 am . So you can be back by 12 noon / 1 pm . You can host to Solang Valley after that. As for 2 year kid , you will have to be careful and protect the kid with proper clothing for chilly, cold weather up at Gulaba .
Planning to visit Manali end of April. (Next week) since rohtang pass is still closed. Wanted suggestions on what other places are worth the visit? Solang or gulaba or kothi?
