If you want a steamer or bucket or what I’d call a low country boil type of meal, look no further!
I did the #2 for 4 people, added andouille and let her rip. Followed the directions and let me tell you what, if you are going to a restaurant around here and paying $$ for their versions you are getting ripped off. This is the REAL DEAL!!! Forget Dirty Dick’s. Avoid the crowds at the Mad Crabber. Stay in the comfort of your rental house and enjoy this dadgum fine meal!! ITS TOO EASY!! Relax with friends and family and enjoy the whole experience.
We fed 5 and still have shrimp and taters left over for tomorrow.
I was a bit iffy about the OBX after a week here because the food from various restaurants honestly has been mediocre seafood but after tonight’s meal I’d come back the 8 hours it took me just to enjoy a few nights of this steamer pot!

We’ve stayed up and down Hatteras Island for years, but our first time right in Avon. Went to Surf’s Up looking for local seafood and wasn’t disappointed. Excellent selection, oysters, clams, scallops the first night followed by flounder and shrimp the next night. All fresh and delicious. Bonnie and John know what they’re doing and were very helpful.
I asked if they could get me whole Red Snappers and next day they delivered. Everything was fresh and since they’ve grown up right here on the island they know their business. Friendly and helpful we will be coming back on all of our future trips.
There are many seafood stores on the island but I must say these guys genuinely seem to love what they’re doing and appreciate their customers, unlike a few other spots where they act like they’re doing you a favor by selling you their goods.
Right around the corner from Food Lion in Avon so don’t miss it. Thanks to Bonnie and John for helping making this an excellent vacation! Got 2 dozen more oysters for an appetizer our last nite, huge!

Best Seafood on Hatteras Island. This is the real deal. Fresh, sweet blue crabs are worth it. Get them steamed with extra Old Bay. Live if you’ve got the steamer.

This was a great find for us. The selection was great. We purchased seafood for dinner all week from the, We would have sampling dinners for 4 teenage boys. They got to try wahoo, shark, sword fish, and alligator sausage just to name a few items. Our boys enjoyed the seafood from Surf Up so much they kept asking to go back rather than go out to dinner. This was a big highlight for the week.

While spending a week in Avon, we came across a site for Surfs Up. After watching the video of their clambake bucket, we were sold. The price on the video showed $75 for the #2 which fed 4. We ordered 2. At pickup, we were told the cost was $115 per bucket. The gentleman we dealt with stated that the market had nothing to do with the video, even though it was on their website. We purchased only one, paid cash and he charged us $100 (a good will gesture). The crab, potatoes and corn were delicious. Half of the clams did not open and the shrimp were quite small. I am relating our experience as a warning to others to check the current price before ordering and to check the bucket before cooking.

Sorry for being late to the party, I’ve been a bit busy. The price in that video is from many years ago, it’s the only video out there but we clearly state it and have it on display. The price of crab legs has gotten outrageous. I’m sorry about the misinformation, but we are doing the best to keep it up to speed, I believe the date of the video is posted with it. I would also like to thank you for the kind words and hope you have an amazing summer, stop in and chat and we will make it good, thank you for the support and have a great summer. John.

I’ve been dreaming about the clambake bucket for a year. I can’t say it was the reason we can back, but high in the list. From the ordering process, to the fun watching the whole family dig in and get messy! One of the “must do” things in this fantastic area of NC. Thanks to the staff for another great experience!

We got the combo #2 and a extra pound of shrimp to feed a family of 6. The extra pound was not needed. Combo #2 says it feeds four but it handled 6 with no problem. This place is worth 5 stars. Come hungry!!!

We stopped in to this market to grab some shrimp for dinner while on vacation. The two gentlemen working the store were quite possibly the friendliest people I’ve ever met in my life. They were very personable and answered all of my questions. We left with several pounds of deveined, steamed, seasoned shrimp that were fantastic.
I will be stopping back to this shop every time I’m in Avon.

We make this one of our first food stops once we’ve settled in. When you have a large family, it’s just easier to go to market and buy seafood than it is to a Restuarant. We always get his spiced steamed shrimp. It is out of this world. And when the crab legs are available, they’re also a hit with the family. I will say you either need to call ahead or go early. Don’t wait till 6:00PM and think you’re gonna get some food. He is busy doing other orders and things run out quick. Also, during peak season, expect to wait 30 min or more. But honestly, it’s worth the wait.

What are the prices on crab and shrimp lookin like at the moment?

I don’t what prices are today, but I can pretty much guarantee that they’re better than most( and the quality is always great) . You can call them though and they’ll be able to let you know.

Back in June they were 90.00 1/2 bushel. Probably better prices now since its later in the season.
