We had a great time on OBX. We really enjoyed our stay in the house and the convenience to everything. Our kids took advantage of the canal, kayaking and paddle boarding out the back door. We had fun exploring the area and spending time on the beach. Christo and Melissa are great hosts and easy to work with. You'll be well taken care of when you stay or take lessons from their excellent team.

I had my first lesson with Kite Club Hatteras. I was amazed at how quickly we were in the water flying the kite. The whole experience was exhilarating and a ton of fun! James was extremely patient and skilled at helping me to feel successful in a short time. I highly recommend Kite Club Hatteras!

This was our third trip to Avon and our third time working with Kite Club Hatteras. Each time the coaches have been excellent and always flexible in terms of getting me and my friends out on the water at the best time for our skill level. We appreciate very much the fact that if you can't get out, they don't charge you. That seems obvious given that we are all dependent on wind....but not everyone has that approach.
The equipment is top notch and often renewed which is also appreciated. We love the team and will be back!

I just returned from Avon in the outer banks,NC during which time I spent 6 days wing foiling with The Kite club hataras crew.. specifically James. He was absolutely a fantastic and patient teacher and was always available to offer different methods to make my experience the best it could be. The owner Christos was also a great source of info and support as well. I highly recommend this very dedicated foil, kite, and winging teaching center for the best experience possible.

It was a great experience… very windy but James put us at ease… my son got up first lesson in the water I got up on my second lesson.

We spent a week in Hatteras to take advantage of the great kiteboarding conditions. We found lodging elsewhere but we signed up for a week of lessons with Kite Club Hatteras. There are quite a few kite schools to choose from in Hatteras, but we selected Kite Club Hatteras because of the consistently positive reviews and the fair pricing.
I initially dealt with Christo, the owner, in setting up our lesson program. The default arrangement is to have a 3-hour lesson, but our preference was to do 2-hour lessons to avoid getting over-tired. Christo was more than happy to accommodate this request.
Our instructors were Rick and Oleg and I cannot say enough good things about them. A number of other reviewers, including on Google Reviews, have commented that both of them are extremely patient, "chill," friendly, professional, on-time, safety-conscious, and other positive adjectives. We found all of these things to be true.
Kiting is often referred to as an extreme sport, and the main reason is that if a problem develops while you are kiteboarding, it can become a scary situation very quickly if it is not addressed the right way, promptly. Rick and Oleg are able to manage the safety of their students by teaching best practices, watching for and correcting mistakes, all while projecting a sense of calm. They are able to do this without coming across as overbearing.
One of the nice bonuses that Oleg and Rick provided is that, when they had a free moment, they took some videos of us up and riding. These are great to show friends and family who are curious about the sport. You could set yourself up with a GoPro, but it looks much cooler when your instructor makes the video from a jetski.
Kite schools don't control the weather, of course, and we had some pretty wild changes in the wind conditions while we were here. The forecasts are not always reliable, and on days where our planned lesson time was going to coincide with extremely strong, gusty winds, Rick and Oleg moved us to a different time slot on the same day so that we could enjoy our time on the water without feeling overpowered by the wind.
In my book, one of the marks of an excellent kite school is quality gear. There's nothing scarier than trying to kite with a malfunctioning bar, harness or kite. All of the gear we used at Kite Club Hatteras was in great condition and we had zero equipment problems while we were out on the water.
We live in DC and plan to return to Hatteras. Kite Club Hatteras will be our first choice for additional lessons, and Oleg and Rick will be our first choice for instructors,

We just spend a glorious week here at the Turtle Club. Awesome home with everything you need. We cooked several nights and the kitchen is the best equipted that I've ever used. Bedrooms are spacious and beds were comfy! Love the open concept of the living/dining/kitchen. We were a group of ten with ages 6 months to 68 and there was room for all. A great front deck to sit on and watch the activity at the ppol and a spacious back deck great for cooking a steak on the grill or enjoying a cup of coffee early in the morning. I loved the more relaxed pace of Avon. There were numerous great places to eat and shop. We visited the lighthouses and took an hour long ferry ride that was quit refreshing. All and all I'd give this area and our hosts-Melissa & Christro a 5 star rating! Hope to see you again in the future.

I spend 4 days long weekend at Kite Club Hatteras. They offer full package for kitesurfing, including accommodation, kitesurfing lessons, gear and more...
The accommodation- the units are 4 bedrooms spacious and spotless clean, with beautiful porches on both sides of the unit. Kitchen is very modern with brand new appliances and convenient center island.
The kitesurfing lessons- i had lessons every day and with different instructor every day - thank you Graham, Rick and Christo! All of you are amazing and your experience helped me to get where i had no idea I could in a few short days. The first day with Rick I learned how to stay upwind, the second day with Graham I was able to start doing transitions and the 3rd day with Christo we had fun going around an island with the kites - close to his backyard. All lessons were with jet ski! That was extremely helpful as the instructor stays next to me and can give me clear instructions what to do at the moment - very different than other schools that go with a boat and are at a distance that doesn’t give them a chance to give you timely instructions!
I had my own gear, but Christo suggested to use his kites and gear that was more suitable for me for the wind conditions there and to give me a chance to try better equipment! They use only top notch gear! That alone makes a huge difference! After the lessons I was so impressed by one of the kites and asked Christo if I can buy it. That kite was brand new as he opened it for me for my lesson. He gave me very fair price so i took the kite and bar home. Overall the whole experience was great- fantastic lessons, great buying experience- as i tried different kites and got great price for the one I bought, plus the accommodation was exceptional!
I am hooked for live now and next time will bring the whole family to learn kiteboarding! Can’t wait to go back!

Christo was awesome. The house and Kite lessons were great. He got me up kite surfing in 8-9 hours and I’m 59 years old. Thanks Christo!!

We had a great time in no small part thanks to Christo (well mainly I did, because I didn't manage to convince my wife or cousin to try... this time). To be honest, I've tried kite surfing in a number of locations around the world and Hatteras has to be among the best I've experienced; so if you're reading this and wondering whether this is something you should try: do! We'll definitely be back!

What is the minimum age requirement to take lessons?

Not sure ...sorry. I see many young kids ripping it maybe early teens ? Call or email Christo he is very good getting back to you.
