This beautiful is located in central dehli. They started building the church in 1930 and completed in 1935. It is not as grand as in europe but it is still classic

It is a decent cathedral with admirable exterior, but I have seen much better ones even in India itself, let alone across the world. I wouldn't have made my way all the way there again, but certainly glad I did the first time around.

This church may not perhaps compete with the European grandeur of cathedrals but it is a beautiful and rare Catholic Church in India. Classical in its design and structure and you can visit it after exploring Connaught Place.

Situated in the heart of Lutyens’ Delhi, the Sacred Heart Cathedral was built to minister to the Roman Catholic community of Delhi when New Delhi was being constructed. To ensure that the building would fit into the general appearance and grandeur of the rest of Lutyens’ Delhi, Edwin Lutyens himself was on the committee created to vet the design of the church. The architect finally chosen to design Sacred Heart was Henry Alexander Nesbitt Medd, who was also the architect of the nearby Anglican cathedral, the Cathedral Church of the Redemption.
The construction of the cathedral began in 1930 and was completed in 1935.
The church sits in sprawling grounds, with gardens, lawns, a parking lot, and various other buildings, such as the Diocesan Community Centre (DCC) Hall next door.
While you can take photos outside the church, photography is prohibited inside. The interior, however, is just as impressive as the outside: there are beautiful paintings of the various Stations of the Cross lining the walls, and the altar is of Carrara marble. A large and very impressive painting adorns the wall behind the altar. Also, do not miss the large statue of Madonna and Child on the left as you enter the church—when we visited a little before Christmas, Mary was decked up in a beautiful zari saree, and baby Jesus was also dressed all in gold.
No entry fee is charged, but donations are welcome. Please be mindful that this is a religious space, so dress and demeanour should be in accordance.

One of the oldest Roman Catholic Church in Delhi, it is located very near to Connaught Place. The architecture is beautiful, the premises are neat and clean. You will feel calmness and positive vibes here once you visit.

One of very few Catholic churches in India but a beautiful example of blending local colours into a typical, if smallish, Cathedral. Built in 1935 of local stone. Had to view it in a rush, which is the curse of bus trips ! Was quiet & calm compared to outside the gates !

A calm and spiritual enclave and a beautiful mass.
I arrived early (too early in fact) for the English mass at 9 and ended up staying for the Indian mass instead. The service was vibrant, prayerful, with beautiful music and truly felt like I was in the presence of God.
It was wonderful being part of the congregation and taking the Eucharist in such a wonderful cathedral church .. it has a lot of history (all of which is detailed inside the church)
Really felt blessed to have been lucky to celebrate with local people.

This 90 years old beautiful Roman Catholic Cathedral is located in the heart of the capital near Connaught Place. Designed by British architect in Italian style, this marvellous structure and peaceful place of worship is a must visit, if you are in Delhi. A bronze statue of Pope John Paul II, donated by ambassador of Republic of Monaco, stands with outstretched hands in a gesture of greeting people. The statue is at the entrance of Cathedral, facing the tree Pope planted on the day of his first visit in 1986. The cathedral observes Holy Mass every day in morning and evening along with several other yearly functions and festivals.
Important Infos:
1. There is a dedicated parking area inside the premises for all the visitors.
2. Parking is also available outside the Church area.
3. Photography inside the main church building is prohibited.

As churches go, this is very average and 'run of the mill' in my opinion. I'm wondering why we even stopped here. I'm catholic and have seen my share of churches all over the world. And I appreciate that nearly 10% of Catholics make up the India population. However, I see nothing impressive or memorable about this church and as such I would not recommend stopping if even for a moment.

I went to visit the Sacred Heart Cathedral and I was surprised to find out that this church has many Masses on Sundays. I arrived at before 3 PM and learned that there would be a Mass at 4:30 PM in the native language and that there would be an English Mass at 6:30 PM. They already had 3 Masses in the morning. During the Mass, I found the community very vibrant in singing hymns. One can see the devotion of the people in the faith. The priest was very friendly and gave the Sacrament of Reconciliation upon request even before the start of the Mass. He was really helpful and accommodating and one can see his pastoral caring attitude. I had the opportunity to attend the celebrations of the Feast of the Sacred Heart last Sept. 29, 2019. There was a sung Mass with the Archbishop Emeritus and many priests within the Archdiocese. The Mass was followed by a procession of the statue of the Sacred Heart on the streets of New Delhi. The procession ended at the hall of the Convent of Jesus and Mary where the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament was held. Afterwards, there was lunch for the members of the community. Although Catholicism is a minor religion in India, the Catholic natives are devout and loyal to the faith. Worth mentioning is the tradition of removing shoes before entering the church by the priests and by the people. This showed their great reverence for the Blessed Sacrament and that the altar is a holy place. There are also statues of saints inside the church. Picture taking is not allowed inside the church. Outside the church there is the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. Many people offer flowers to Our Lady. This is their way of showing their love and honor to the Mother of God. There is a big statue of St. John Paul II. A tour of New Delhi will not be complete without visiting this beautiful church. I highly recommend it to every traveller, Catholic and non-Catholic.
