Watch northern fur seals on the rocky and sandy rookeries. Observe many species of pelagic birds on the bird cliffs Watch the arctic foxes watching you. Tramp thru the lush shin-high tundra.

Just back from 3 nights 4 days with St. Paul Island Tours. They arranged everything from the flights to the hotel to the meals. The guides knew their birds and where to find them. When it became apparent that the group had different interests they split us into two groups. (one wanted more of a general tour and the other more focused on birds)
St Paul is a village of only about 400 people, located in the middle of the Bering Sea, so the accommodations are limited. The only hotel is clean and comfortable, with shared bathrooms down the hall. We were taken to the Trident Cannery for all 3 meals. The food was good. But there really isn't anywhere else to eat.
The male fur seals were just coming ashore and the females were expected in a couple of weeks. I think this would be a amazing thing to see. Even thinking I might have to go back in a year or two to watch the invasion of the seals

The Alaska Maritime NWR covers protected land in the Aleutian Islands as well as the Pribilof Islands at the southern end of the Bering Sea. Not always easy to visit, St. Paul Island might be one of the easier units to see. It involves a three-hour flight from Anchorage on PenAir, a regional airlines that flies Saab turboprop planes. The nly lodging on St. Paul is the King Eider Hotel, run by the TDX Alaska Native Corporation, at the airport. This thirteen-mile long island has several rookeries of the protected northern fur seal. It is one of the best locations for viewing Red-faced Cormorants, Red-legged Kittiwakes, Thick-billed Murres, and both Tufted and Horned Puffins. The island is charming as the Aleut village shows off brightly painted houses. The maritime tundra that hugs the island's narrow lanes is reminiscent of Ireland or Scotland. June is the best month to see birds in their breeding plumage.
