I was still a young student when I heard about the bamboo organ of Las Piñas for the first time. Our school also organized an educational tour to the place just to make us see it. I was then very excited. I felt the same excitement when my friends and I visited the parochial San Jose Church in Las Piñas this afternoon ... some four decades later! The guide at the museum (Php 100 entrance fee per head) provided us with lots of info about it and even took us up to the church's choir loft so that we could have a closer look and even touch the famous cultural heritage of the Philippines. It's amazing to think how such an early 19th century (1816-1824) musical instrument with 902 bamboo pipes and 129 steel pipes can still work to perfection! In fact, a regular annual concert using the bamboo organ is organized every month of February. The small church that houses it ... the San Jose Church (built originally by Fr. Diego Cera, OAR in 1797-1819 ... is also lovely and worth a visit.

When visiting Manila off a cruise ship, the Bamboo Organ was one of the stops on an all day tour. The tour operator had arranged for a short concert. What a fabulous sound. It is a cultural treasure as every Filipino we have ever talked to in the States all acknowledge with pride when we tell them we have been to see the organ. The little museum is quite interesting. You get a chance to even play a few notes on an early version of a bamboo organ. Fun for all.

Culturally and historically, there’s really nothing to do around here, except malling or eating as your avenue for Filipino culture immersion. My kids were bored going to malls, swimming in hotels for 2 days.

The bamboo organ is a Philippine treasure! I briefly learned it when I was in third grade, and I’ve never been inside even though I’m in the area before.

When I went there, so much history! The bamboo, of course, is made of 902 bamboo pipes out of 1031 organ pipes. The rest were steel pipes. The tour guide was a volunteer high school student, practicing their public speaking. Entrance is 100 pesos for adult, and 50 pesos for children. Tours are offer daily. During the 30 minute to one hour tour, depends on you actually. The church is beautiful! If you have millenial kids, it’s Instagram worthy!

My son has a project in his Araling Panlipunan its about histrorical places in your community. I decided to bring him to the Las Pinas City Bamboo Organ. Its not far from our house its about 10-15 minutes drive. You have to pay a small amount for the maintenance of the museum. The guide will tell you all about the history of the bamboo organ from where it was made, who thought of it, how it was made and how long it took the builders, and what are the materials used to make it. It was an educational trip for me and my son.

Billed as the only 19th century Bamboo Organ in the Philippines that has survived and is still functioning, this unusual instrument is housed in St. Joseph Parish Church, Las Pinas City about 10kms south of the centre of Manila. Just over 900 of the organ's 1,000+ pipes are made of bamboo and it produces a soft, mellow, reedy sound. Since its restoration an International Bamboo Organ Festival is held every February attracting locals and tourists alike.

Kind of far from the center but worth a visit (then go to the US cemetery and Ayala on your way back to the center) since it is a very rare sight and the sound from it are very melodious. For a very small fee, a guide not only tells you about the extraordinary history of this bamboo organ (repaired in Germany and flown back) but also invites the organist to play for you. The Pachelbel canons on bamboo ... magical! Also worth noting, the mother of pearl chandeliers in the church.

Recommend the guided tour as it takes you up closer to the bamboo organ and the history of it is given first before you climb the stairs. You can play a few notes on a bamboo organ and shown the original version. The whole thing is quite an experience as bamboo is everywhere.

This has to be one of the most beautiful churches in Manila. If you are lucky enough to be there when the Organ is being played it is an experience. The church is known by all and the history of the church is incredible. Very very beautiful church. We recently held our son’s wedding at the church and it was incredible.
