The mission at Guyabo Animal sanctuary is worthwhile to support. They have 4 fully furnished villas for rent. They help abandoned/street dogs find forever homes.

When you book Guayabo Animal Rescue on Airbnb, you truly get a special experience.

Not only will this be one of the highlights of your trip, but you will also get to support an amazing non-profit.

They take in animals most in need and have the lowest chance of survival.

Their property spans a few hundred acres with tons of rescues you can interact with, including dogs, puppies, goats, and horses.

Once you arrive on the property, you’ll be greeted by a bunch of friendly dogs who want to play with you, which is an amazing feeling.

Everywhere I went, I had at least a few dogs following me, which was amazing. I got attached to more than a few of them (you can also adopt them).

We also got to feed some puppies (they almost always have puppies around, so your chances of interacting with some are high).

They have tons of trails, incredible views of the mountains and forests, and beautiful sunsets.

Pictures do not do this place justice.

Their villas are massive, with all of the modern amenities you’ll need.

There are plenty of outdoor and indoor areas to hang out.

They have a BBQ area you can use and enjoy the views and an amazing sunset.

If you have a big group, you can rent multiple villas.

There’s enough space to do any activity you want (a big group came and rented out multiple villas for a yoga retreat.

They also have ATVs and horses you can ride.

The staff and owner are all incredibly nice and welcoming. They offered us eggs from their chickens and fruit from their trees.

There’s a tranquility and energy about this place that is just indescribable.

One of the best things we’ve ever done, anywhere in the world.

You’ll meet some of the kindest people with a vital mission. On top of that, you’ll have fun supporting this incredible organization.

It’s also a fantastic value because you get to experience so much and have a massive place to stay, with all of the modern amenities and comforts you could want, including a washer/dryer, stocked kitchen, and much more.

I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute I was there. The worst part about this place is having to leave.

We had such a great time we’re already planning to go back and stay much longer and volunteer on their property for an extended period.

If I could rate this a 10 star animal rescue I certainly would. They exceeded my expectations by far. I just became part of their "volunteer program" The staff was very knowledgeable & loving. The property was amazing & beautiful because the dogs were able to go on trail walks, enjoy spa days, and most importantly receive unconditional love! I can't wait to return. I volunteered there for over 7 days. FROM CHICAGO, IL area.

The villas were beautiful and very clean and spacious. The property was gorgeous and we got to hang out with dogs, chickens, horses, goats, the list goes on. Went on a 4-wheeler tour as well and some of the dogs came with us. The views from the property were amazing and the staff was so friendly and so much fun. I highly recommend going here. You won't regret it.

I came to visit Guayabo Animal Rescue from Jacksonville Beach, FL and it was my first time to Costa Rica. I stayed a week and such a magical place with kind people! We were greeted by the Rescue manager Louis. Even though his English isn’t perfect he was still able to guide us through check-in. The villas are VERY spacious….and have AC in each room – which in Costa Rica is a super bonus. The villas were well stocked with kitchen supplies, towels and even had a washer and dryer. The rescue is set on top of a mountain in Costa Rica so when you are there your view is looking out at the beautiful lands surrounding the area. The coolest is you can see the Miravalles Volcano. It is part of the rescue logo and very prominent in your view and it’s spectacular! We spent a full day doing a hike up the volcano through the National Forest. We saw tons of waterfalls and the hike was cool (literally) because we were shaded from the sun by all the forest trees. I am a scuba diver, and it was just 1.5hours to the coast for me to dive. The diving in Costa Rica was gorgeous. I dove with Rocket Frog Divers and highly recommend them as the other dive shop I had originally booked with cancelled on me last minute. It was easy to navigate the roads there and I would also suggest SIXT car rentals as the others were very expensive with lots of extra fees.
We also ate at the Volcano restaurant just a few short miles from GAR. It was a great dining experience and especially fabulous because we could sit outside.
Also, there is a hot spring just down the road from the rescue and it is magical. There is a restaurant there as well which is excellent.
At GAR we were able to assist and love on all the animals and it was such a treat! They are mostly a dog rescue but they also have horses, goats and a few cows. They offer horseback riding excursions and also ATV excursions right from the rescue – both were great fun!
I also had the opportunity to go with the GAR team to harvest honey….it was sooo cool. I however would not suggest going to the actual bee hives because I did get stung. If I had to do it all over I would wait till the team got back and help with the honey harvest. I will say HANDS DOWN it is the best honey I have ever tasted. They sell jars of the fresh honey there as a way to support the rescue and I brought a few home.
Also, stay at least two days…three or four are even better. You can use the villas as a home base to explore other areas of Costa Rica and the team at GAR had GREAT recommendations for activities on and off the beaten path. I also enjoyed GAR because it is cool on top of the mountain (Like 15 degrees cooler than down in the main town) so it makes for a relaxing and enjoyable outside experience.
The entire GAR team is amazing. Jose is the resident horse expert and usually guides the rides. Didier does a little bit of everything and is always around to help. He lived in the US for a time so his English is excellent. Ronald is full of spunk and always wears a huge smile. Luis manages the rescue and is always around to help and show you the animals. You can tell this Costa Rican team is passionate about the rescue and takes pride in what they are doing to help save animals in need.
All this to say – VISIT GUAYABO ANIMAL RESCUE!!! You won’t be disappointed.

It was a fantastic place. We stayed for 5 weeks and became part of the organization. The animals the people, the town everything was lovely. The horses and dogs were very sweet. We took them into the big environment every day and had a wonderful time.
