In late 80s my kids and I stayed at Bowen Ranch with my sister in law. Back then it was famous for being a nudist ranch as well as a nudist hot spring. Curious tourists, both near and far, arrived by the bus loads. From the ranch to the hot springs was a mile hike down the mountain and clothing was optional. It was natural and beautiful.

We came to camp here in Mid-July. We expected it to be hot and we were informed to bring our own means of shade due to the lack of trees and natural shade. That’s fine. What we did expect there to be onsite was grills on the fire pits, … More

My daughter and her boyfriend, both 19 reserve the Bowen Ranch through hip camp. On the morning of the first day , they were looking for breakfast as was advertised but finding that is not provided decided to go on a hike to the Hot Springs. It was 930 am in July 2024 , The owner said there'd be water as they hike down to the springs if needed . Of course they brought their own water, but it wasn't enough. When they arrived, they looked for the water source, couldn't find it; by then it was getting late and very hot.. My daughter tried making it up the but the hike is very steep and started to get dizzy and throwing up and couldn't make it up the rest of the trail, it was extremely hot. When they tried to contact the owner, there was no answer so they were left to call 911. The owner didn't give enough warning too these 2 inexperienced, hikers and the 2 had to be helicoptered out. We've since been told that this happens pretty often in the summer I think more care should be taken to warn visitors. Luckily the young adults are OK but it could have been much worse. Be prepared as you will not be taken care of if you stay here .

The hike to the springs were super downhill and dangerous if you fall because there is no protection on the sides of the trail. The hike to the springs did not take that long since it was downhill, but it was tiring. Once you get to the hot springs, you see naked people, couples making out, and dirty warmish water. In the hot springs mirky water, there is tadpoles and other creatures above the water. There is some benches and a swing there. If you climb some rocks, there is really hot -hot springs. They are very clear and since it's so hot nobody is in there. There is another spring behind the really hot one that is less hot so it's very nice. Those springs are beautiful but idk about the other one. The hike to the parking lot was very hard. BRING WATER if you go during the really hot summer months because you will need it for the hike!

My friends and I hiked into this canyon about 8 years ago. We brought our own food and water. We traveled thru the dirt road to the parking lot. At that time, there was no charge to get in, nor a charge for parking.
Once there, there was swimming available. People weren't all that friendly, but the 3 of us enjoyed our time nonetheless. Some people were nude, but there was no outlandish behavior.
Hiking out was uphill, so if you come here plan for that, so you don't get caught in the dark. I recommend the hike... it's moderate going down. Semi- strenuous coming out.
I'd never do it again, as I'm older now and not in such good shape.

Our first visit to Deep Creek Hot Springs. We accessed the trail through Bowen Ranch Road, paid $5/pp, and received a map. The gentlemen who collected our cash was friendly and insightful. We began our hike down at around 1:30pm. We finally reached the bottom an hour later. There were at least a dozen people scattered across multiple hot springs including a few kids. We only noticed one person fully nude. The vibe was really social. Everyone enjoyed their favorite beverage in the company of others and occasionally we got the breeze of Cannabis. We would consider the hike back up strenuous but well worth the glute and hamstring workout. Take your time, pack water and carbs. We plan to make the hike again but next time in the early morning.

I come here every few months with friends. We take off our clothes, we drink, and we just hang out. Cliff jumping, hot springs, and sun in San Bernardino, who could ask for more? For anyone coming here expect people to not have clothes on, it has been historically nude for decades. Easiest place to come from is Bowen ranch, they charge $10 for parking but are VERY mean if you are late getting back, so do not be late. If you don't want to deal with hostile people come up the other way, but Bowen ranch is easy and secure I've parked there many times. Nice part about coming up from Bowen is you can even hike the trail nude because it is private land on some parts. PICKUP YOUR TRASH please. And bring some food to share with people, these springs are on the PCT. The PCT has through hikers that hike for 1000's of miles. Be nice to them!

We tried to walk down from the Bowden Ranch parking and never found the springs! There are too many crisscross OHV trails--and even if you head straight down to the creek (about a 1500 ft. descent), it is then unclear if you should head upstream or downstream. After going both upstream and downstream for over an hour we had to give up and climb back up to avoid darkness. Coming from Bowden Ranch (east of Deep Creek) you would need to cross the water in the creek to find the springs. Note that heading down the main canyon from the Ranch we actually saw the intersection with the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), but unfortunately the white map handed out at the parking was not useful and did not include the important PCT landmark. It is probably better to try the hike coming in from the Lake Arrowhead side.

There are two ways to get to the springs. One trail is a 6 mile in and 6 mile out route. The route I suggest is the 3.5 mile trail from Bowen Ranch. Here is the tricky part. GPS may cut out and it may try to drop you at the 6 mile trail head. Put this GPS address into your google maps and print it on paper 6100 Bowen Ranch Road. This road is a rocky unpaved road that goes for about 6 miles to get to the ranch. Have a good car with good suspension that sits a little higher up. Before you get to 6100 you will see a huge white tarp sign that says open on the left hand side of the road. Pull in, pay 10$ a person. They guys who take entrance fees are super nice. They will direct you to the lot. Half the battle in this trek is actually finding the ranch. The hike down is steep but all down hill, so a person can be thinking...ohh this isn't bad. Once you get down to the springs...fricking enjoy! My friend and I spent the day going from the hot springs to jumping in the cold river. The hike back was steep and challenging since our muscles had been so relaxed in the springs. There is no tree cover and the sun can be intense. I suggest that you get out there by 8-9am and leave the springs by 2-3pm. You want to get off the rocky dirt unpaved road before the dark. GPS cut out again on the way out and took around 20 minutes to get it going. Print paper directions from the ranch. San Bernardino is darker and hardly has street lights. Snacks, Water and Sunscreen. If you are prepared the hike is worth it. The springs are clothing optional and I would not suggest kids or elderly could swing this hike...

We were on an impromptu road trip from the Bay Area to SoCal and back up again. Deep creek hot springs was probably the most marked and “popular” one on the map, so we decided to check it out.
Our initial plan was to park and follow the Bradford ridge trail, but because we were unfamiliar with the land, we opted to go to Bowen ranch.
Upon arrival a nice lad was there to collect our money. $10/person, cash only. He gave us a simple map(looks like he draw it himself), and told us not to get lost. He also mentioned that camping was not allowed, but many people camped in both the parking lot and down in the valley.
The hike down was not bad. For an avid hiker, it was very easy. Once we arrived it was pretty quiet for a while, until people started swarming in. We were there in Memorial weekend, and it seemed that there was a party going on.
We tried to be polite and ignore the rowdy crowd, but they were quite the rambunctious crowd:
- drunk
- smoking(without asking others if it was okay)
- leaving trash everywhere
- setting up tents along the bank of the river
We loved the hot springs itself, but not the crowd who decided to violate everyone else’s experience.
Would recommend if you come on a quiet day.

This place was beautiful in the 70s. The hike exciting. Sitting in the hot tubs then jumping into the ice cold river a rush. No one wore clothes! Staying for days getting high and hanging out!

We plan for the trip next Monday to the hot springs. It would be me, my friend and a dog. Is the water at the ranch high at this time- I heard some said it could come at waist?
Rédigé le 27 février 2020
I foolishly used GPS which led me to a long circuitous route to Bowen Ranch Road along awful dirt roads. Once on Bowen Ranch Road, I took a wrong turn and had to ask a colorful local resident for directions. I was close and he directed me correctly to Bowen Ranch.

Would this be a safe place for a 50 year old woman to be at alone?
Rédigé le 18 novembre 2017
Probably so, but I would actually not recommend it for a weekday on the off chance that there may be only one other person there when you visited. On a weekend there would likely be many more people - and a mixed crowd - so you'd feel safer in numbers. I also wouldn't recommend hiking the Bradford Ridge trail alone unless you are a well-experienced hiker (due to some places where the optional trail is difficult to identify) -- but the Bowen Ranch trail should be fine as it is much more heavily utilized and is more easy to navigate and hike.

Yes, people stayed overnight. Personally, I would NOT unless you have the ability to defend yourself against potential personal threats.

Is Bowen Ranch still open to park your car there?
Rédigé le 17 septembre 2017
How long a hike, and what shape should a person be in to get there??
Rédigé le 30 mars 2016
This is definitely a personal perspective-type question. I regularly do about 40 minutes of cardio in the gym or running outside about 3-4 times per week. I found the trail to be pretty easy, taking about 1 hour. Individual results may vary, but even an out-of-shape person could do it by going slow (and taking plenty of water in hot weather).
