If you want a faux chateau type winery that reminds you of Bordeaux, this is not your place. However, if you want really good wine for a reasonable price, this is the place to go in Sonoma. Of all the wines we tried in Sonoma, this was easily our favorite. We ended up buying a case of 4 different wines (prices from @$30+ to $60+ -- around $650 for the case), and are now starting to enjoy them again. The rose is my wife's favorite, and the pinot noir is incredible. We also bought the merlot and the cabernet but haven't opened those bottles yet. Given the prices, it probably isn't your everyday wine, but it is great for the weekends/special occasions. If you bought these wines in Napa, you would have to play a good deal more.

We loved our visit to Peter Cellars! The owner was present throughout the visit, as was their lead tasting expert. Both were the right amount of helpful, without being pushy about actually purchasing the wines. We ended up buying 6 bottles because we loved the wine so much but we never felt pressured to do so the way we did at other wineries in which we tasted. The setting is close to downtown which was nice as we didn't have to trek far, and yet offered the ideal winery setting, with a perfect covered space complete with fire. It was a favorite for us for the entirety of our trip. The three golden retrievers that joined us in the tasting didn't hurt either! We would highly recommend it.

This small, one-man winery was an unexpected find. The experience was not as refined as most of the tasting rooms we visited on our trip, but that's what made it so endearing. Our host was none other than Peter, the owner, farmer, & winemaker. In no other experience on our trip did we even come close to talking to a winemaker, but Peter shared with us his operation, his views, his techniques, and gave us an insight into wine production like none we've ever had. And the wine we tasted, well, there's a reason he's received multiple Gold and Double Gold awards...it was fantastic! If you require a polished wine room environment, then this is not the place for you. But if you want a really unique, and dare I say, "educational" experience, I highly recommend him!

The cleverly-named Peter Cellars is owned and run by a Brit named Peter, who one day made the decision to leave the tech industry, study in Oenology and move to Sonoma to start his own winery. On his small estate, he grows and picks his own grapes, crushes the fruit, ferments and blends the juices, and elaborates his own wines. He also washes the tanks, bottles the product, and runs the tasting room when someone calls in sick, like the day I visited, so it was a personal experience. Understandably, Peter is the guy who prefers being behind the scenes, so his presentation during the tasting was a little more reserved, but any questions asked were answered with knowledge and a very evident love for his job and the wine he makes. The tasting worked its way through several different Pinot Noirs, a Syrah and a Cabernet Sauvignon, all very dry - Peter explains how his wines often have no residual sugars - and though they were good, nothing blew me away, as I prefer a slighlty sweeter wine. The hospitality was good, the outdoor tasting room very comfortable, and the hidden location, down a farm road and removed from the highway, makes this place a real gem in Sonoma.

I absolutely loved this vineyard. It was my favorite on our entire wine tour. Peter was so personable and had the best tasting wine of the trip. Small details like his British background + 2 ranch puppies named Harry & Megan made it that much better for our bachelorette party group. Regret not purchasing a case.

Not recommended. Located in a residential area, they appear to be home/backyard-based. Their environment is a black cloth covered canopy/patio. This lack of ambiance and non-descript porch did not exude a Sonoma wine tasting experience for us.

Hello, thanks for spending time reviewing us. However we had a couple of questions in regards to your review. Firstly we are located in a rural area surrounded by vineyards and family farms not a residential area as you represent
Secondly there is no black cloth covered canopy/patio, but a permanent roofed structure to protect against sun and rain, We were a little confused by this and wonder if you may had confused our place with somewhere else
Best Regards and Stay Safe

I strongly favour small wineries with small volume production focusing on turning out good quality wine over eye dropping yields. The personal nature of sitting with an owner or manager to talk about not just in detail about each tasting but also the operations and realities of running a winery is the reason why I go on a wine tour: otherwise I would just find a wine shop and drink my way through the samples.
Step forward Peter Cellars who runs precisely this from a vineyard that you would have to know was there otherwise you risk driving passed it. The Incredible Adventures Tour Company from San Francisco brought us here for about an hour where we tasted our way from a rose (highly recommended) upwards to Cabernet Sauvignon and ultimately a Syrah. There were about 6 wines all together. Peter talks you through the profile of each wine, the production process, its awards (many are award winning) and of course whether you enjoy it or not.
If this is not enough, there is a family dog that likes to make an appearance at some point.
Wine is of course available for sale should you want to take some away with you. You need to book in advance however as unplanned visits are not accepted. I recommend making this a pit stop together with a collection of other smaller vineyards in the area; I would not want to drive out of San Fran (where you are likely coming from) just to come to this vineyard unless I made such journeys regularly and lived in the area.

We dropped in here for a wine tasting as part of an organised wine tour. All the wines were very nice, grounds were nice too.
