Rule #1: don't trust your GPS map on this one! Ours brought us to a parking area high above the beach - a pretty view, and a long trail down, but you can drive right to the beach if you just go through the town. It is a beautiful spot.

What a fantastic beach! We stayed in a rental home just up the road and attempted to access it from the "beach access" park just north of town. DON'T! Go and park at the harbor in town. We walked what we thought was the right trail and ended up in the parking lot of the research center where a kind employee told us people end up all the time because the trail in the park isn't maintained. She suggested just parking at the harbor instead, which was SOOO much easier. We arrived around 10am on a Monday, right before low tide. It's a super quick walk over the beach to get to the water and amazing tide pools. I've never seen so many starfish! So many interesting tide pools and rock formations. Bunches of pelicans flying over. A beautiful stone arch and at low tide, you can walk across to a small island too. We spent a few hours here and if it weren't for grumbling stomachs, could have stayed much longer. The only thing missing was a water station to rinse off sandy feet when we were done. Otherwise, this was an amazing, FREE beach!

My daughter (21) wanted to go ride pooling and this spot was recommended by one of the visitors centers. We decided to go to college cove. We arrived about an hour before low tide in the morning. There is good parking. The trail down to the beach is pretty narrow and steep in spots. This place was also very secluded. We were the only people there. If you want a more maintained trail with steps I would suggest agate beach at sue Meg park north of this. We made it just fine as we are avid hikers. I was glad I was wearing my hiking shoes.
The beach is beautiful. To the right is an area with many tide pools where we saw a ton of sea life. The beach is mostly sand with occasional rocks. If you want to rock hunt I would suggest agate beach instead.
This was a beautiful area we explored for a couple of hours. I would totally return!!! This isn’t a place I would feel comfortable going alone due to the secluded nature and steepness of the trail.

Beautiful clean and relaxing beach. Not crowded and a peaceful place to watch the sunset. A great place to take a stroll from end to end because it's relatively a small beach. Plenty of safe parking.

This beach is quite extraordinary. I am no geologist but I just marveled at the rocks on the beach--many reminded me of huge lava bombs and flows as I saw in Iceland, other rocks were so full of quartz intrusion, meandering all through the rocks in all directions, I wondered at the force of the tectonics in the area. And then there are the stones that used to be caught in the cliff matrix, so interesting. Walking on this beach felt like a walk through incredible geological times and events. Truly an experience. Beautiful

I had close to a religious experience just walking this gorgeous beach this past September - it was the right mix of fog near the pier but then on the actual Trinidad State Beach, just gorgeous rocky scenery, loads of giant mini-cliffs and giant rocks to marvel at on the beach and just a very healthy, zen vibe.

There's a medium-sized parking lot there with access also to the cove behind it and a walk up to the old lighthouse location, but I also saw people taking a trail from elsewhere in town and through the trees to the beach with their dogs.

Some people love Moonstone, but I thought THIS beach experience in the afternoon is just gorgeous and very Northern California. I had a great time walking the entire length and back, taking in the views, breathing in the freshness.

Plenty of parking spaces.
Beach with nice sand for kids to run around while the parents just sit on a rock and relax and enjoy the sun set.
