Took my little dog in a front facing sling. Walked a few miles. Saw many on bikes or w dogs. It was everything I hoped it would be

What a beautiful trail! We didn’t start out as early as we wanted so we will be back. We went about 2 miles in and turned back. Weather was incoming. The trail is well maintained and we encountered many locals who gave us lots of pointers and tips

We accessed the trail from just outside Durango. The trailhead is through a neighborhood and past a school, so be patient. It is well marked, well kept and well used. It peacefully travels next to the river and goes for many many miles, so choose your distance for an out and back.

Take your hiking shoes, your water and a camera. Remember your hiking etiquette. Clean bathroom at trailhead but limited parking so get there early. Worth every minute for beautiful river waters flowing beside you and a great trail.

Some day hope to start the trail here and head to Denver, for now a short MTB ride was great. Durango has a lot to offer.

We hiked segment 28 out of Durango on August 29. Stunning scenery and good, medium difficulty hike. Beware it is not possible to socially distance and most hikers are not wearing masks.

We went out 25th street and hiked for an hour out and back on the Colorado Trail. Picked up some people that had been out in tents for 39 nights.

This amazing trail starts in Waterton Canyon near Denver and goes all the way to Durango. You can just catch it somewhere and walk to your heart's content, or you can make a plan to walk the whole 479 miles. The full stretch is divided into 28 segments of 11-31 miles. A good estimate for the whole thing might be 40 days although some great hikers can do it much faster. It passes through 8 major mountain ranges, 7 national forests, and 6 wilderness areas. My family did the first 3 segments last summer in four days, 3 nights camping. It is amazing. Get a book or do lots of online research. You have to be prepared with equipment and to know where good camp and water spots are.
Within a few hours, we had already seen bighorn sheep and a mama black bear with 2 cubs. My son and I started to have blisters but my husband had acquired Leukotape, which lived up to its miraculous reputation. After 2 nights' camping, there is a long stretch with no available water until a volunteer fire department which is where my nephew succumbed to some kind of heat exhaustion exacerbated by caffeine overdose, I believe. We were able to call my sister-in-law to come get him before the rest of us continued on for the last night's camp.
Along the way, you run into many of the same people, they passing you and you passing them. An amazing community forms as you share in this challenge, although I believe there are just the right number of people; you'd never say the trail is crowded. However, my husband did suggest I not review this trail so as not to increase the traffic too much. Whoops. We plan to knock out the next few sections this summer. In addition to nature's beauty and the positive physical activity, you are reminded what's real in the world. See you there!

Only 500 miles to Denver. That is a lot but folks who are fit can do it in a few weeks. In parts it shares trail with the Continental Divide Trail. Section from Molas to Creede is the most spectacular, IMHO

This is on of the most beautiful mountains you will ever see.
"It is breath taking in buitty and in atuality it is an elavation of of around 14000 ft.
the roads has twist and turns but it has several overlooks to stop at and towns in between a lot of the sights. We were their in Sep. and the mountain peaks still had snow on them.

We are 3 Australian guys planning to walk CT in July/Aug. we need to finish in 31 days because of flights etc. We have the Trail Book which essentially breaks the trek up into 28 sections. Is it better to follow this breakdown or try to even the walk out which would probably mean doing a few of the earlier sections together and splitting some of the longer ones.
Our main concern is food and fuel resupply. Any advice that can be given in this regard would be most helpful as we will be unable to preposition food packages or rely on support. In essence how often do we need to resupply by diverting off track and going into towns to buy food and fuel
Really keen to get any advice
On this and anything else that would help us

I have only hiked portions of the trail as day-hikes, which is probably the case of most reviewers on TA. But, in general, the answer to your question(s) is dependent on many factors: your fitness, pack weights, weather, injuries, appetite, etc. Use the website resources to make a plan, build in contingencies, and then be willing to improvise as necessary.
