I took great pleasure in taking my late wife there to feed the swans.
We used to take the special bird seed so that they got the correct food .
They seemed to remember this.

Such a lovely hidden gem. Lots of ducks to feed and lakes to walk around. Very pretty place.
One of our favourite places to go.

It’s over 50 years since I first passed Straws Bridge Ilkeston, Then it was a dump and very boggy industrial wasteland .
Today it’s a Wildlife Haven ... attractive lakes, pleasant walks, lots of birds, insects, butterflies and this time of year a mass of wildflowers.
Lots of different paths to follow and also the Nutbrook Cycle and Walking track adjacent.
Thoroughly recommend for a picnic !

Had a lovely walk around on Sunday ❤️ Saw a feral Mandarin for the first time! Baby ducklings learning to dive was a lovely sight to see 🦆

Known locally as `Swan Lake` this is a lovely calming place to walk, bird watch and enjoy the views.
Plenty of different paths to take to vary your visit each time.
Have visited many times and its always enjoyed by all.
The car park does get busy at times so best to arrive early and watch for birds when reversing!
No facilities on site (except picnic tables and benches) so bear this in mind when visiting.

We are regular visitors to this wildlife oasis , however we find the constant barking from the near by kennels is ruining our visits more and more often. Last weekend, early May it was nothing short of bedlam , regarding the dog barking . We appreciate this is a business but it sounded like 20 dogs were out barking all at once . It took us just over an hour and a half to do our usual walk during which we could hear the dogs barking at all times. My sympathy to anyone to has to live near this kennel ... it must be difficult to sell a house in the area , unless all viewing are done in the dead of night .

Straws Bridge was our starting point for a new years day walk, free parking and even early there where several cars, almost full when we got back. The swans and ducks on the pond didn't mind all the folks coming and going even with the cold weather, note ice on the water in the photo.

Straws Bridge free car park is often busy so get there early to go for a walk around the water and then further afield, beautiful surrounding always busy with diucks and swans and today for our 1st re-lockdown walk a perfect starting and ending place.

A beautiful nature walk spoiled by rat infested banks and local idiots actually feeding the rats. The things are literally everywhere

Is the actual strawbridge still standing if it is the one you go under on the nutbook trail

Hi
So far as I know, the original straw bridge isn't still there. You're right in thinking access now is going on or next to the Nutbrook trail. Brilliant walking area!.
Hope this helps!
