A free museum offering a comprehensive look at the area's history and staffed by wonderful volunteers, anyone curious about the origin and evolution of Tarpon Springs would be wise to spend some time here. It's within walking distance of many shops and restaurants (for which parking is conveniently free) so a visit can easily be fit in between other Tarpon Springs destinations.

My husband and I love to travel and also enjoy visiting historical places and learning about the history. This place was chockful of history and artifacts from various different sources besides featuring the history of the train station in early Tarpon Springs. It was wonderful to see how things were over a 100 years ago.

An old remodeled train station from the early 1900's. It is home to the Historical Society. They are only open Wed-Sat from noon to 3 pm. Admission is free but they love donations. There are many artifacts and relics from area days gone by. Quite an interesting history to see and read about Tarpon Springs different nationalities.

Look ahead to verify times that the station is open as hours are very limited. That being said, the amount of history and displays are well worth the visit. The building has displays of the old ticket counter, separate for races at that time in history. The historical society has done a good job of showcasing the area history within the train station. You can get a great overview by your visit. Then take a walk on the street downtown and enjoy!

Handicap parking was behind the depot and the entrance was in the front, about a block to walk. Walked in and think the 3 people that were there all work/volunteer there. No special greeting, signed the guest book and no one said where we should start or gave us any history of the depot. We proceeded to wander through the building on our own. So many local places we have visited they are more than willing to share the local history with us, not so here. There was a lot of items on displayed and enjoyed the local history.

A remodeled train depot is now home to the Tarpon Springs historical society. The building serves as a local history (sponge diving, fishing, tourism) display space, home to a great collection of train memorabilia and a comfortable venue for poets, writers and historians. It's tiny, just two rooms, filled with old time medical instruments, WWII paraphernalia, maps, ship models, etc. If you're in T.S. set aside a half hour; it's worth it.

Old maps, tools, pictures and lots of other things. The docent pointed out the baggage room, the "whites only" and the "blacks only" train waiting rooms and bathrooms. There are many pieces of historical significance. It's an eclectic mix and there is no admission fee. A donation is gratefully accepted.

I learned lots of new things there and thought it was great! I love how they keep it original and I thought it was really cool to see how Tarpon Springs has changed since they where sponge diving. It was very beautiful inside and I would definitely go again!

I went to this place and it was wonderful. The history in the place was absolutely stunning. The work that was put into place to get all the equipment in there was huge. It was cool to find out all that history about Tarpon Springs. This is definitely a place to go if you want to learn about historical Florida.
