Ever since it was established in 1914 on the corner of Clark and Addison on Chicago's North Side, Wrigley Field has been the centerpiece and namesake of this former working-class neighborhood now know famously as Wrigleyville. It has outgrown its reputation as the home of the Chicago Cubs and the Friendly Confines. Today, the area is a tourist destination and hubs that swells with activity during Cub home games. It is routinely packed with more than 20 sports bars and pubs and baseball-themed gift shops that line Sheffield, Addison and Clark streets. Located in the Lakeview neighborhood, Wrigleyville is bordered by Halsted Street on the east, Irving Park Road on the north, Racine on the west and Cornelia on the south. You can take an official tour of Wrigley Field, enjoy a rare whiskey pour at Mordecai or oysters with stadium views at Swift & Sons, join the Bleacher Bums in the left-field bleachers, reserve some rooftop seats across the street at Wrigley Rooftops, consume a delicious Chicago-style hot dog at Wrigleyville Dogs, chill out and absorb the atmosphere at Murphy's Bleachers, have a beer at Cubby Bear, sample the tacos at Big Star Wrigleyville or the Asian dishes at Cozy Noodles & Rice or order a thin crust cheese and sausage pizza at Happy Camper. Finally, relax in Wrigleyville's newest attraction, Gallagher Way, next to Wrigley Field, which hosts many events for children and adults, including farmers' markets, outdoor concerts, film screenings and live TV coverage of the Cubs' game. You don't even have to be a sports fan to enjoy it all.

We drove through Wrigleyville on our way to the Cubs game with the Pirates this past July. It is a vibrant neighborhood. I really liked the stands which have been built on the rooftops of the buildings surrounding the outfield walls.

As part of our bike rental, we left the pathway along the water and rode to Wrigley Field. Also rode around this neighborhood. It was an enjoyable ride, and if you’re a Cubs fan it’s part of the charm in the stadium area

Ask 10 people familiar with the Wrigleyville neighborhood on Chicago's North Side to point out its borders on a map and you'll probably get 10 different answers. Irving Park Road or Grace Street to the north. Newport or Cornelia to the south. Sheffield or Fremont or Halsted to the east. Southport or Racine or Ashland to the west. Go figure. But everybody agrees that Wrigleyville is a popular year-round destination for locals and tourists who enjoy what the area around Clark and Addison has to offer--restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, souvenir stalls and gift shops--whether the hometown favorite Chicago Cubs are playing or not. Established in 1914, Wrigley Field is the centerpiece and namesake of this former working-class neighborhood. Today, it is a tourist hub that swells with activity during Cubs home games. It is densely populated with lively sports bars and cool pubs. Baseball-themed gift shops line Sheffield, Addison and Clark Streets. Iconic Metro, a 1,000-seat music hall which opened in 1982, has hosted shows by Bob Dylan, Nirvana, R.E.M. and Kanye West. Outside Wrigley Field is open-air Gallagher Way, a popular gathering place for neighbors, locals and visitors all year long. It hosts farmer markets, outdoor concerts and film screenings. When the Cubs play at home, fans without tickets watch the game on a large screen in Gallagher Way. Suggestion: If you are going to a game, take the Addison Street or Clark Street bus. Don't try to drive and park. During the offseason, arrange to tour the stadium and learn by Wrigley Field's storied past. Or go to the Music Box Theatre, which opened in 1929 and is the city's premier cinema for independent movies, documentaries, foreign films and adult classics. And you can buy a bag of popcorn with real butter. The atmosphere during the games is always exciting, especially if you sit in the bleachers or the rooftops, but fans experience even more fun after the last pitch when they gather at one of Wrigleyville's restaurants or bars. Favorites include Murphy's Bleachers, the favorite watering hole of tried-and-true Cubs fans, the Cubby Bear, GMan Tavern and Nisei Lounge, which opened in 1951 and is the oldest bar in Wrigleyville. Other popular venues include Byron's Hot Dogs, Lucky's Sandwich Company, Lowcountry, Cozy Noodles & Rice, Uncommon Ground, Budweiser Brickhouse Tavern, Sluggers, Shake Shack, Mordecai, Smoke Daddy BBQ, Big Star Wrigleyville, Bernie's Tap & Grill, Goose Island, Rockit Burger Bar and Guthrie's Tavern. In Wrigleyville, the game is a bonus.

Ive been to Wrileyville/field many times and I certainly welcome the upgrades and new places.. My only complaint is that as a tour director on a motor coach with many handicapped people they don't make it easy to do a drop and pick up. Wish they could improve that process.

We went to Chicago to go to a Cubs game. We went early to experience some of the bars in Wrigleyville and am glad we did! We stopped in three different bars, had lunch at one. If you go to a Cubs game, go early to experience the area! This is a must!

Wrigleyville is a fun and energetic place. But definitely a place for lots of drinking.
It is bar after bar. Cute bars! Definitely a place for young people - and we aren't that young any more! That being said, we had a great time!

I have been coming around Wrigleyville all my life. I enjoy the little haunts (Murphy's Bleachers, Cubby Bear, etc.) around the ballfield. Make no mistake Wrigley Field is the main draw and what makes the community thrive. From the 80's to 2010 the neighborhood was in need of a makeover and since 2010 it has done exactly that. It has become a much safer and friendlier area to take the family. I have taken my family to see the Cubs play and also on the off days as well. Best advice if you are a Cubs Fan or simply a baseball fan. Take the Wrigley Field tour when the Cubs are away. You will get a deep appreciation of the "friendly confines" and get to see areas of the ballpark that you would never see (dugouts, pressbox, on-field, etc.) during the game. It is well worth it and it is all for Cubs Charities. My family made a day of touring the ballpark, walking around the community, and eating at the Cubby Bear. It was great. The Cubs Store was great to visit and Gallagher Park was super to throw a ball back and forth with your child. If you are a Cubs fan and you have not seen the 2016 World Series Trophy you must get down to the Cubs story. It was on display and you could take a picture with it. The attendant was very helpful and was gracious to take a picture of the family with the trophy. My son and I have tried to make it a habit to play catch at major ball stadiums (Wrigley Field, Busch Stadium, Miller Park, Great American Ball Park, etc.) and it is always fun. Believe me they will remember that! My wife and I have stayed at Bed and Breakfasts at Wrigleyville and walked to the ballfield to see a game and it was phenomenal. If you love your baseball history and love baseball walk around Wrigleyville, take in a Cubs game, have a beer at one of the watering holes and enjoy the city at its finest!
