Small but nice monastery

Lhalung monastery is not so much big as compare to other monasteries of Spiti region. It is a peaceful monastery. Surroundings are superb. When we had visited there and at that time it was closed. We waited for some time and we were lucky as one lady opened the Gate of Monastery for us.

Belief!

On our way to Kaza, after we visited Dhankaar, our driver told us that there was another monastery which the locals had a lot of faith in. Legend has it that anyone who goes here and wishes for a child, they're sure to have one. Then, once they have the child, they need to come back and visit it one more time. So, yes, we definitely wanted to check it out. Really, there's nothing more to it than that legend. Its a small little thing with one room and a huge tree outside. It is said that the tree is more than a 1000 years old.

The golden temple
avr. 2018 • Entre amis
Lhalung is a small village known for its farming and its famous golden temple rather than its age-old monastery. The monastery itself is a small one and is locked most of the time..same goes for the temple. We contacted the villagers who then led us to the lama, who was kind enough to show us the temple. There are two legends about the temple..first,if a person asks for one particular wish wholeheartedly it is said to be fulfilled and second, there is an old tree in front of the temple whose legend goes as this..it was said that if a twig was planted here and survived then a temple and monastery should be built at the site...That’s how the monastery and temple came into existence!

Small in comparison to others

The Lalung Monastery looks more like someone's residence than a place of worship. Unfortunately for us, it was closed when we went. We could not find any monk to open it for us. There was some sort of a ruin next to the building.
What attracted us more was the willow tree at the entrance of the monastery. Legend has it that it was planted at the same time the monastery construction was started. & Lalung is one of the oldest monasteries in the Spiti region.
