My friends and I climbed this in early June. It is definitely a beautiful but challenging climb with narrow passes in many places. I brought my dog and he kept running back and forth along the trail making people nervous about being knocked over the edge!
The views were limited to a few spots and the top, of course, but what made this climb unbearable was the bugs! We were constatly attacked by mosquitos and black flies. I don't like wearing bug spray but finally succumbed and yet STILL had to fight off a reduced but still impressive host of attackers.
Honestly, not sure I'd ever do it again!

The summit and plenty more connects to the AT in an extended alpine tundra traverse, above the trees for some length. Not sure if abandoned loop route is still available to find. This trail has some moderate ledge scrambling with a level of exposure that might be intimidating to some, and requires caution, especially if wet or icy.

This was a beautiful but fairly challenging hike. It closely follows Goose Eye brook which features some beautiful pools, cascades and waterfalls. The views from the top are breathtaking. It was a quiet day at the mountain, as we practically had it all to ourselves. Only saw one other hiker and his dog. Definitely recommend, but prepare for a long day.

I haven't done this one is some years. I remember it was extremely rocky in parts, and in those parts progress is very slow. But when you get high up it is very beautiful - you feel like you are hiking in the tundra. You'd have to be super energetic to get there and back on the same day.

sweat. Enjoy the outdoors it is a wonderful place to spend time.

We started off mid day and planned to stay at the shelter where the trail meets the appalachin trail. We found the shelter no problem after about 1 and a half hours. After meeting some A trail hikers we settled in for the night on one of the tent platforms letting the other hikers have the shelter. Starting for Carlo Col in the morning, the trail is steep to start and doesn't stop till you reach the top, about 30 mins. The view is nice and has a clear view of Goose Eye. The trail then heads down a bit before leveling out. You'll pass through an apline bog, that during the rainy season could be a tough pass. Then there is a bit of rock climging involved before heading up a 10ft timber ladder that puts you minutes from the top. The A trail heads to the next peck off to the right (east) and the Goose Eye summit is off to the left. The 360 degree view on a clear day lets you see for miles, including the presidentials in NH and other surrounding peaks. Stay for lunch and take pictures!
To head down follow the trail markers painted on the ground, on the west side of the summit. The trail startes down at a 45 degree angle and requires two hands. This continues for over a mile and then opens up into a beautiful hardwood forest that is covered in moose tracks. Keep an eye out for these massive animals and watch your step! The decline takes about 3 hours and winds back to a main road just up from the trail head is. This gives you a clear view of where you just came from. Overall it's a challenging hike with a rewarding view. Experienced hikers suggested. Loop takes about 6-7 hours total and is doable in a day with a light pack. Well worth a trip back!
