We are in our 50’s and were out of hiking practice for a few months now.
We took the North Side and the trial immediately goes UP! You travel approx 1000ft in elevation in less than a mile, so its a little challenging for those out of hiking shape.
The North vista was great. But growing trees are starting to block the view.
We did not complete the loop to the South side but returned on the North loop.
The trial head is across from the recycle center on Rt 2 and is not easily noticeable.
Great hike and view, but not a walking trial…

We hiked the South Cliffs portion (left fork). The first 0.5 miles is fairly easy. When we got to the part that had been logged a few years ago, the area was filled with ripe wild raspberries that were delightful. At times the trail up was a bit difficult to follow but we eventually found it. We are both in our mid-50s and this was an accurately described moderate hike. We took fantastic photos from South Cliffs. We hiked just a little beyond to the 1 mile sign, but turned around and hiked back down the same trail because it was hot and we didn't have enough water for the whole loop. We come to the area a few times a year and plan to do the full loop.

Trails are well marked. You can choose to hike up either side to a lookout or do the full loop to both lookouts. Left branch a bit steeper so might be best for the climb up if doing the full loop. Trail is great for hiking or a snowshoes hike in winter.

There are two approaches to Mt. Will. We took the South trail, which begins off Route 2 not far after the transfer station. It was an easy to moderate hike with some steeper sections. The higher you get the better the views. You are rewarded when you reach the peak with stunning views overlooking the Androscoggin Valley and the village of Bethel. You can see the Androscoggin River winding its way through the valley. Several years ago we approached from the North trail, which I believe starts off of Rt. 26 near Grafton Notch State Park. As I remember it was a more difficult climb. Either way you can follow a path around to either trail. Happy Hiking!

Heading up from the parking lot, we took the left fork in the trail and were a bit surprised by the steep terrain and tough footing as we approached the crest . The terrain changed markedly about . 5 mile into the hike. In looked as if there had been recent (we were there in Oct '16) timbering in some sections which left wide swaths covered in debris.

Definitely not for small kids or those with footing issues on bad terrain. Tae your hiking poles.

YOu have two paths to take. We took North Summit which was about .9 mile. It was great first real mountain hike for daughter. We thought we were lost, supposed to follow blue markers, so headed back down, but it took us on the loop to the southern side of the mountain! Absolutely wonderful. They say it is a 3 mile loop but it is longer if you take the entire loop it is about 4.2, they also tell you how many steps you have taken! So cool, very dry, no rain this summer, but still beautiful and just challenging enough!!

Listed as moderate difficulty in various websites, this hike is true to form. A moderately difficult climb took us about a quarter of the way around a 3 mile loop trail (at least 3 hours of hiking with some fairly steep climbs) and to a lovely view over the town of Newry and the Androscoggin River. At that point we turned around because it was late afternoon and very hot but we want to come back earlier on a cool day with a lunch to do the entire loop. For us (71 & 83) it had just enough challenge and the dogs (considerably younger!) ran rings around us, enjoying the woods animal smells.

Our second home is close by, so have hiked several times. Varied terrain, with great views from the cliffs at the summit. Intermediate.

This is a great little hike. It has a ledge at the top where you can have a picnic. This hike is only about an hour to two hours. Depending on how long you rest at the top. But any time in nature is better than no time in nature.

My wife and I had the pleasure of having our daughter up to Maine from NYC for a weekend and we hiked here in the early fall on a warm Indian Summer day. Well a thunderhead approached from the other side of the mountain and when we neared the summit it started pouring but it quickly blew by leaving a most memorable rainbow in the valley that we will never forget. If I find the picture I will try to add it to this review.
