We made a short stop early one weekday morning in mid-September to see the Minuteman statue. We parked along the Lexington Green, walked through the various sites...Revolutionary War Monument...Battle Flag Memorial. Then went across the street to see the Minute Man Memorial and Buckman Tavern. A nice stop.

We toured the Green through the Lexington Visitor's Center. We had learned about the historical background during our Liberty Ride earlier in the day. This tour went more in-depth. Our guide was Allen. He is not super interactive, but he has a wealth of knowledge. The climb up rocks at the end to see the old (relocated) belltower was OK, but not for everyone.

We hired a private guide to take us here. He was a wealth of knowledge. It’s beautiful and well maintained. Lots of signage describing events that took place there.

I came out here on a beautiful fall day to visit the sights. I took the train and bus out from Boston and got here early before the Visitors Center opened for my trolley tour. Got a nice chance for a leisurely walk around the Green where the first shots of the American Revolution were fired. They have the Minuteman statue along with a couple of other signs and monuments as you walk around the green.

While visiting Boston MA area, we drove out to see Lexington Green Park. It’s the site of one of our nation’s most famous military events of the US revolution. We visited the visitors center and watched the video film on the event. Took pictures of the famous minuteman memorial. While in the area it is not something you would want to miss. Thank you National park service.

Just west of Lexington's downtown the road splits at the famous Minuteman statue, marking the eastern corner of Lexington Green (or as some references call it, Battle Green). The green is a large triangular grassy common, and it is free to visit. There are explanatory signs right behind the Minuteman statue. A few stone monuments are placed about the edges of the green, marking important spots pertinent to the events of 1775.
While it seems that guided tours are offered from the Lexington visitors center, (across the street to the east), we found walking the green on our own to be an absorbing and interesting experience. Especially impressive was the large stone up toward the northern corner which marked where the line of militiamen stood as they faced the British regulars approaching from the east (from Boston).
We visited fairly late in the day, around 5 pm, and were able to park for free right on the street by the crosswalk in front of the Buckman Tavern. (There is also a large municipal parking lot over on the east side of the visitors center.) The visitors center itself was closed by then, but we were happy just to quietly walk the green ourselves and absorb the history of the place, stopping only at one point to retrieve our jackets from the car against the brisk and chilly afternoon wind.
After visiting the green, we picked up a postcard at the Buckman Tavern and then walked toward the USS Lexington memorial (located to the left of the visitors center as you approach from the green), which has engraved stones remembering each of the many ships of the US Navy named Lexington.
Overall, this reviewer was glad to find Lexington Green to be a dignified, and almost understated, memorial to an important event in American history.

The Minuteman is anonymous, but has been ret-conned by some to represent Captain John Parker, commander of the Lexington colonial militia. Lexington Green anchors the town center, many nearby historical landmarks and the lively main street named Massachusetts Avenue.

I visited Lexington Green three times doing my trip to Massachusetts in April 2022. It is a very historical place and very interesting. There is a lot to see while you walk around Lexington Green. The new Visitors Center, the Buckman Tavern, the statue of Jon Parker, the Belfry, churches, monuments, historic markets, the large American flag which flies 24 x 7 by order of the US Congress. You can get a brochure on a self-guided walking tour at the visitors center. Lexington is a really nice place and I enjoyed my visit. You can park your car for free near the Buckman Tavern for two hours or you can put money in a parking meter and park in town.

We stopped here while driving through and had no idea we were going to get a history lesson! Great place to see if you are interested in history. Map of the place available at the visitor center.
Little down town is also pleasant for a stroll and a coffee.

Unfortunately, we arrived in Lexington when the Visitor's Center had closed. We didn't find a self-guided tour or anything like that. The battlefield was not very well interpreted as far as we could see. I know that it's in the middle of a modern town but it could have been done better. Four stars for the location; two stars for its interpretation.
