For those interested in seeing a lighthouse up close and personal, this is for you. The hike out and back is about 3 miles (5 km) a good portion of it is over the breakwater. It is important to know that the breakwater takes some skill and agility as it is uneven in places and requires some jumping and climbing. At the higher high tides the rocks are often wet, submerged and slick adding to the threat of injury. The views of town are amazing for this perspective. The lighthouse is to the right and easy to spot. The path can be a bit convoluted so pay attention as you pass by beach roses and beach heather. The lighthouse makes for great photo ops and there is a short blurb on the history. Just past the lighthouse is the bay side beach and  a view of Truro and a nice spot to relax, sun and  have some lunch. Bring it in, bring it out!!

I did not make the trek out to the lighthouse after reading the many stories about the challenges of getting there. However, I was able to get a picture from the beach off of Commercial Street in town. I will make the personal visit on another trip when I have time and am prepared for it.

I could see it across the bay,
would be really cool to get there and see it up close as I think that would be interesting

YOU'LL WANT TO TAKE THIS IN, WHEN YOU'RE IN P-TOWN. But you have to start your trek as the tide is GOING OUT. Be of sound and nimble footwork to walk out over the jetty to access this spot. (the last of the land in Massachusetts) you'll only have a short window before the "tide turns". You won't be able to make it back to terra firma unless you have a hovercraft. BUT certainly worth the effort.

We went on an drizzly day and found the rocks on the jetty slippery so we turned back. We will try again, though we will probably head out via the beach instead of the jetty.

Not all lighthouses are tall. This lighthouse is a navigational aid to assist ships entering the harbor and help them avoid sandbars.

I love lighthouses, so we took a walk out to Wood End during our trip to Ptown.
You need to go at low tide and the walk begins at the breakwater. You walk about a mile down the breakwater (wear good shoes) all the way to the end. Once there, just hop off and head down the marsh/sand towards the light house. About another 10 minute walk. Hike over the little dune and there you are. BE CAREFUL here - the entire area is surrounded by poison ivy. You are safe as long as you stay on the little trail, just watch out for your legs and where you walk.
The beach behind the lighthouse is beautiful. We even saw a whale out at sea!
Really fun walk and good place for some pictures. Took us total about 2 hours (with time just hanging out on the beach).

It's not open to the public and there are no restrooms there. It is secluded and quiet, I felt like I was on the tv show Lost. The beach is very nice though.

We took the 45 min walk from Commercial St along the jetty. Peaceful and beautiful (wear appropriate shoes for sand and slippery rocks). Worth every step for the views and quiet beach.

After years of wanting to make the walk we finally did it. Sun and tides were all lined up the day we made the walk out to Wood End lighthouse. Solid 1/2 hour to 45 min walk out the jetty. Another 15-20 min walk to the light house on the inside turn.

Amazing to be that far out and see P town on the horizon. Gives great perspective of the end of the cape.

Amazing feat of engineering. Army Corp of engineers laid out a flat top jetty that for the most part is easy to traverse. If you are active it’s an easy walk/hike.

Be mindful of tides and weather. Both change quickly.
