Believe that crafts people and artisans are people of the past? They are certainly not at THE TAUNY CENTER. Spend more time than you anticipated looking at the diversity of excellence in woodworking, quilts, and pottery. Kathy and Lois will be pleased to answers questions about any of the items for sale and to share TAUNY's remarkable history. Thanks particularly to Varick Chittenden, St. Lawrence University 1963, the founder of this specual place from classmate John McClenahen.

Amazing craftsmanship by local artists including pottery woodworking quilts etc... There are many historical pictures from the 20th century

TAUNY has a wide variety of beautiful artwork for sale by local artisans; unique, one of a kind pieces for gifts or for home decorating. It's definitely worth the visit!

This is a folky shop in Canton where local artisans sell their wares. I always like to see what people are making and I wasn't disappointed. There was everything from fabric to wooden items. The displays were aritstically done. I would say it was a huge cut above any local artists shop that I have seen. This summer they were displaying musical insturments of the area...some handmade! It was a wonderful museum display of people who played their banjos, guitars, and fiddles and their stories. The special display is closing in October so be sure to get in there and see it. It should be kept up in a museum for ever...but then those musicians wouldn't be able to play with those instuments anymore.

This was my first visit to TAUNY - I was there to attend the Writers' Fair. They have the best in local Northern NY artwork. So many quality items to look through!

Whenever in this part of the world, I never hesitate to travel out of my way to visit Tauny. Over the years the displays have gotten better and better. They are always locally oriented and can be historical and contemporary. On this trip there were some interesting ceramics.
But really, the best part is the shopping. Always some good gift for yourself or others, as well as maple products, soaps. Staff are welcoming.

The quilt exhibit was very moving, with numerous historical quilts on display as well as recently crafted quilts. Loved exploring the ceramic wares, carved wood, and other things created by local artisans.

Very nice selection of North Country crafts. Sales persons were helpful and explained the history of the many varied gifts. Good resource for local artisans.

Don't plan to just rush in and take a peek. Take the time to really look at the lovely objects and displays. Items range from local handcrafted candles and lotions to stunning beadwork and jewelry, as well as practical and beautiful home goods.
