Decided to break up my drive from Poughkeepsie area to Long Island with a hike to stretch my legs. Basic parking lot with a map and printed maps to take along. Map was pretty accurate (doesn't show elevation change, but that's fine). There were some uphill and downhill sections, but nothing killer. Definitely worth wearing the hiking boots, as plenty of rocks in/near the trails. Trails were clear, well-marked and well-maintained. I did a counter clockwise loop, up to the lake, around, and back. I did seem to miss one intersection, and went a bit further to the small pond before getting back on track, but nothing drastic. Critterwise I didn't see too much: a few birds and frogs and chipmunks, and a couple of splashes in the lake of something larger, turtle maybe? Nice trees, some cool mushrooms. Ran into maybe a dozen people (plus a few dogs), so generally a nice quiet hike. Really enjoyed it.

I had passed by many times, but was pleasantly surprised to find that not only was the parking lot revamped, but so were the trails. 3 mile round trip to the lake makes a nice short hike.

Went for a moderate hike with our 4 year old daughter who did a great job setting the pace and did not complain all that much at all. We walked from the parking area on Ludington Road taking the diamond teal trail to the lake and back. Some interesting nature as we saw a turtle in the lake, chipmunks and even a snake who didn't seem to want us there. Nice little adventure. Most of the trail we took had been cleared of the trees that fell from the tornadoes 2 months ago in our area. It was clear that this area was hit hard and it must have been tiring work clearing the trails. Many thanks to the volunteers that do this!

We hiked on Monday - May 28, 2018. Clearly a tornado had gone through this park two weeks ago. Teal trail had less downed trees than the yellow trail. It made it more challenging and we had a great time/hike. We met a few nice people during the hike but certainly not crowded at all. It was our first time on this trail and we will be back.

We were there on a beautiful May afternoon and only saw one other hiker; area is secluded. Hiking trails are narrow but well-maintained. Equestrian trails are wider. Hike to lake is not an insignificant change in elevation but not steep. Trail hugs the lake in places and you get beautiful views of the lake. Plan about 3 hours. Previous reviewer mentioned hiking sticks; other hikers have left their walking sticks at the entrance for hikers to use. Looking forward to going back in the fall when the leaves change color.

A relatively new state park, I only found it recently after living in the area over a dozen years. There are no facilities of any kind, no bathrooms, cleared areas, or camping; simply hiking trails. Except for the very beginning, the hiking trails are well marked, and easy to follow. Although there are probably some sections of the trails that deserve to be called easy, I would grade the whole place as "moderate". You have to go uphill right from the start to get to any path, and the trail to the lake is uphill most of the way. Going at a leisurely pace, it took me about 50 minutes to reach the lake. Although the miles are marked on the map for each trail, walking to the lake is just part of a trail, and it wasn't clear from the map how long it would take. Thus it took far longer than I expected, due to being uphill and having a few places with difficult footing. Bring a walking stick if you are over 40! The lake itself is a pretty little pond, but with very little access, and no cleared areas or development of any kind. It is overgrown with weeds at the end of summer.

Going back was not hard, but tiring on the feet, mostly downhill on uneven rocky surface. About 45 minutes back from the lake to the parking lot.

I met an Indian woman on the trail with her mother, who appeared to be from India and didn't speak English. The mother, in her sixties or possibly older, walked with a cane but made it to the lake and hopefully back to the parking lot. I wonder if they would have started that hike if they had a better idea about the trail.
