The museum building is beautiful with impressive views of the Cornell campus and Cayuga Lake from the 5th floor windows. There is limited parking available immediately in front of the museum, but we arrived a 1/2 hour before it opening so proved to be not a problem for us. Admission is free, but we found little of interest so we were literally in and out in an hour.

Easy to find and parking available in front of the museum. The museum architecture is amazing, externally and internally and an I.M. Pei feat! Multiple floors with varied collections and a few notable works. Art appreciation enhanced with curated labels. Well worth a one to two hour visit.

A stop at the Johnson Museum of Art on the Cornell University campus made our itinerary as one of the renowned architect I.M. Pei's museum designs. And it did not disappoint!! The museum has a nice representative art collection... American, European, and Asian... that includes work by some favorite artists. Their Fifty Years: An Anniversary Celebration with the Collection exhibit was fun as we saw images that we grew up with. The Gifts of Modern Art: David M. Solinger, Class of 1926 included some terrific modern era pieces. The museum design seen throughout the building...circular staircase, ramps, balconies, atrium... the light and shadows and curves. And of course, the views of Lake Cayuga and the Cornell campus from the 5th floor were compelling. Also enjoyed the Japanese garden and the outdoor sculpture balcony.

...because there is NO PARKING! Absolutely insane, and even the poor museum employees are upset by it. Apparently most visitors are Cornell students who are required to go for some class requirement. And with no parking, prepare yourself for a hike up the Matterhorn! I never set foot past the main lobby, and I only ducked in there to inquire about parking. So this review is only about accessibility, not the museum collection. A major disappointment!

We travelled to the Ithaca area specifically to go to the Arnot Museum in Elmira and the Johnson in Ithaca. At the Johnson -- admission is free -- the staff were very friendly and we had no problem with parking. Lovely museum with a superb collection specializing in Asian Art. Nice grouping of European and contemporary works as well. Well-curated exhibits with several beautiful local pieces, including from indigenous artists. And we concluded our stay with a stunningly beautiful Giocametti Standing Man. Seeing that piece alone is worth the visit. Plus the beautiful views of the lake from the fifth floor!

Well what a huge disappointment! We drove 2 hrs to see this museum and there is no parking, anywhere to be found. As art historians and Museum employees we are shocked-access is usually part of any museum’s mission. Not this museum!!
Don’t bother even driving up there. We wasted an hour driving around looking for parking!!

What an amazing collection of art exhibits spanning all eras and styles - just a little bit of everything. And the highlight is the views of Ithaca from the 5th floor - not to be missed.

We were hiking at Treman State Park and decided to visit while we’re in Ithaca. We parked at the University’s pay garage, much easier than finding parking near the museum. From the garage it is about 3/4 of a miles through campus to the museum- a beautiful walk. The museum is free. They have collections in 3 floors, ranging from photographs to glass to Asian art. The sculpture patio has a really cool ceiling light display worth checking out. Definitely worth an hour or two.

If you have a love for the Arts then this is a must visit. So many amazing talents are preserved in this building. I stop at this museum when driving through the area for work. The art is breathtaking !

I have been to the university museums for Harvard, Penn and Yale and I thought that this Ivy Museum would be a nice complement to a trip to the Finger Lakes. DON'T GO! This museum has very little to offer. There is a floor of Asian art that is very modest at best, and a wall full of American paintings, but most of the museum is either empty, under reconstruction, or poorly arranged. The only upside is that it is free. But parking is a serious issue. There are about twenty spots in front of the museum, most of which have been taken up by students. The rest of the parking on campus is severely restricted to faculty and staff. You could park your car on a street down an extremely steep hill, but that is limited to two hours, which might be okay because it would be hard to spend two hours in this place. I don't like writing negative reviews, but sometimes the truth is the truth.
