Very pretty trails. Extremely difficult trail — which I loved. We hiked up to the great ledge and found an absolutely incredible view!! Lots of rocks so wear hiking shoes and the path could be wet especially after a rain

Wonderful campsite 11 right next to the stream. unfortunately no hot water for my 3 days there.. mens bathroom sink near entrance was not working.. closet spigot working was near campsite
27. No firewood sold at campground at this time. NO cell phone service.. most campsite are very close together so not much privacy. Dead end road so virtually no road traffic at all. Most campsites are rocks and dirt. No fire ban 8/2022 at this time. Its about a 30 min ride to Phoenicia. Bathrooms clean. Very close to hiking trails- Slide mountain trail and giant ledge right next door.. check out at 10 am..

This was our first time camping in the Catskills and we had a great time at Woodland Valley. When we checked in the staff was friendly and informative, gave us some good recommendations for easy hikes with the kids. Our campsite #39 was smaller than expected, so we asked about moving to a different site, but they were already booked up for the dates we selected. After setting up it was a actually a nice spot. Even though it was right next to the bathrooms and water, we hardly noticed anyone else coming or going, and having that close by was quite convenient. I also liked the dishwashing station setup, which was outside of the trash/recycling building. It had a big sink and detachable spray nozzle, which made it easy to wash a lot of dishes quickly. My favorite detail was the fire pits. They were more like fire places made of concrete, with an adjustable cooking grate. Keep in mind you can’t grill directly on these grates, the slots are too wide, you’ll need some kind of grill topper or cast iron pans. You really can’t go wrong with any of the sites here. There’s not a lot of privacy between sites as they’re pretty close together, but that’s how it is at all the state park campgrounds I’ve been to. If you want privacy, go backpacking on Slide Mountain.

I’ve been camping around NYS for many years and it’s always been a pleasure. I’ve also been to Woodland before- which is normally very nice. However— not this time—- the park employee (ranger??) was obnoxious and excessively loud—She was deliberately going around trying to pick fights —she had a counterpart, a man, who was also very aggressive and refused to socially distance while going around and harassing (told one family with a young child to take down a small play tent because it violated the maximum “2 tent rule”). One couple from abroad actually left due to the treatment. She drove around on a cart and was shouting at people. Our check out time wasn’t till 10 AM and she drove around on her cart at 9 AM and started shouting at us that we had better hurry up because she had other people coming.
In addition the bathroom and showers weren’t working so we had to drive to another state campsite to shower and use a porta potty while we were there. There was also no running water to use at that time.

The camp ground is closed due to covid-19, but the parking lot is open and you can still have a picnic by the creek. This is the beginning of a few very difficult trails (which we did not attempt, we know our level, but I envy those who were able to do them; judging from the beauty of nature in the area, I'm sure there is much to experience). We walked around by the creek and enjoyed the symphony of colours that fall brings. The 5 miles drive from the nearest hamlet of Phoenicia is a treat as well.

We loved the campground! Check in was easy and the lady who helped us was great. Quiet, woodsy and far from town (5 miles)! The facilities were clean and close by. Just what we wanted for a peaceful weekend, no cell service FYI which was perfect for us. We will definitely be back.

A nice quiet place to camp away from the crowds at the more highly developed places. Trails from here go to some great places.....Giant Ledge, Wittenburg Mountain, etc.

Nice, somewhat remote location, 20 minutes literally up the creek from Phoenicia. Many good campsites, many along the creek, and some reasonably private. Clean restrooms and showers. Very helpful staff who clearly take pride in their (public!) facility. A great takeoff/landing spot for a 20+ miles hike of the excellent Burroughs Loop.

This campsite is like a trailer park with really nice bathrooms. You drive up with your camper or tent and set up in prepared spaces with picnic tables and fire pits. You'll definitely see and hear your neighbors, but you'll have a road accessible place that is safe and really beautiful, nestled at the foot of several stunning mountains. From there, hike up any one of several well-marked trails ranging from pretty easy walking to really challenging hiking. Ambitious peeps, check out Slide mountain, the challenging 7 mile John Burroughs trail. If you just want to amble, wander down Woodland Valley Road, which is beautiful. Drive to town for food and supplies is about 10 minutes.
Hike the wilderness during the day and sleep safe at night. Best of both worlds.
