I visited Lola's to purchase some yarn and was pleased to find small pieces for sale here. I chose a stamped pattern but was unable to buy a large hook or hoops, or scissors here. Lola is not currently a member of the rug hooking guild, and did not know about the wonderful traveling exhibit of "Every Child Matters" hooked rugs. I was able yo buy red, yellow, black and white yarn, and will try to create my own piece.

The owner, Lola, was drawing a design for her next rug on burlap backing. She learned to hook from her mother as a child. They hooked together to earn money to feed the family. Beautiful and extensive selection of work by many area hookers for sale. Top quality.

The name was what caught our attention. There is a great selection of local artisans crafts not just knitt works. Got some very unique gifts here. And great host. Highly recommended stop and shop

If you're thinking about unique Cape Breton souvenir gifts that will be highly prized by the recipients, stop here. It's right on the Cabot Trail, they have good parking, there's no excuse. They have the most beautiful hooked rug products in every price range. Rug hooking is a form of folk art, and a truly historic, traditional craft for this region. We are so glad we stopped in here, as our gift and souvenir buying was done when we walked out. We don't know their seasonal hours, so consult the website if you're travelling off season. They were open early October when we were there.

Found this shop by chance as we were driving by. Bought two little hangings and then managed to get back just in time before Lola shut up shop for the night. On this second visit bought a beautiful larger piece hooked by Lola herself. This is now in a framing shop in Hertfordshire, England, to be framed. Shop is just full to bursting with brightly coloured hooked pieces in all sizes. I loved the idea of older local ladies carrying on the tradition of hooking over the winter months and keeping alive a craft which would otherwise disappear. Lola is friendly, amusing, and engages happily with customers.
Framer in England was most impressed by how neat the back of the rug was! (You could just about hang it either way round, was his opinion.)

We absolutely were "hooked" by the name on the sign; Proud to be Hookers! I am also a crafter but I have never seen such fabulous work in all my life. It is worth stopping by to see their work.

We stopped here on our way out of Cheticamp before doing the Cape Breton Trail. What a wonderful place with amazing "hooked wool" gifts, pictures etc. Had a lovely chat with the owner and chief "hooker", it seems that this is a dying art which would be such a shame. We bought a couple of gifts to bring back for friends in England and i have to say they loved them.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We stopped in Lola's shop while vacationing in Cape Breton. Lola has a beautiful shop and is very friendly. Yes, some of the bigger rugs are $$$, but there are smaller items that are reasobably priced. I purchased a couple of dishcloths for my kitchen and now wish I had bought more. Love them!
I don't know anything about rug hooking, but can certainly appreciate the planning, time and labor that go into it to produce such beautiful pieces. Definitely worth a visit!

Talk to any rug hooker in the area and they will tell you that Lola's is "the place" to go, and they are right! It has an amazing range of hooked rug designs and sizes with brilliant colors, yarns, patterns and kits. The staff person, Annette, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We got to talking and she even invited us to attend their local, ceilidh group that evening which we did. It was a treat! If you are looking for a wonderful keepsake representing the area and a local, traditional craft, you can't go wrong with any of the items at Lola's.

There are some lovely items in this store - large or small, different themes. If you are looking to buy some rugs, wall hangings, coasters, etc., this is the place to go...largest selection we found anywhere.
