Booked a table for 8.00 pm but it was 8.45 pm when we were shown to our table; however, this was somewhat mitigated by the apologies from the very personable staff. When the starters arrived, we were surprised at the quantity and quality of the food; things had changed substantially since our last visit. One starter of bruschetta with heritage tomatoes and artichoke was unrecognisable, a tiny square of toast was served with a couple of pieces of tomato and a very hard item resembling a small uncooked new potato with skin on. There was no sign of an artichoke and even the waiter could not identify this mystery ingredient. This cost £8.00. The prawn cocktail was unremarkable and served in a tiny dish, less than half the size of the usual portion.
The main courses were not much better. The quality and size of the meals were alarmingly poor. The steak and ale pie was very small, the cod smaller than usual and the scampi a cheap alternative to what was previously on offer. Even the tomato ketchup had been changed to an inedible over sweet cheap imitation.
We have dined at this restaurant on many occasions and had good food, but after this meal we would not return. The food is now poor and overpriced. It is such a pity that standards have been sacrificed in the pursuance of profits and, unfortunately, once the tourist season quietens down, this restaurant will not survive in its current capacity. This will be a sad significant loss to robin Hood's Bay.

A group of four friends were visiting the Whitby area for the day. As I had never visited Robin Hood's Bay previously, I had a look on line and it looked possible to drive to the harbour, drop off one of our party who has serious mobility issues and then drive back up to park the car.

I failed to see the "Permit holders only" sign at the top and drove down the narrow high street, aghast at the 30% steep hill sign. With no opportunities to turn I had no option but to keep going.

Once at the harbour, I deposited my three friends and drove back up to the car park. This was challenging to say the least. A couple of MPV's came the other way and passing was nigh impossible. The 30% gradient required first gear and huge revs. Eventually I made the car park and walked back down to meet my friends.

I said I doubted whether I could do a repeat trip to collect them but two said they'd never make it up the hill on foot.

So after a mooch around the small shops, I returned for the car. the second uphill trip was worse with a full load and an underpowered Vauxhall Zafira. There are many pedestrians on the narrow street.

We made it but the experience almost left me mentally scarred.

Maybe they need a lad rover shuttle like Clovelly

You can lose some weight if you walk from here to Whitby. It can get a bit tiring at some times but I carried on so I made it all the way! I recommend you go here

Beautiful place with nice views, I was lucky that I picked a day when the sun was out. The coastal walk is lovely, the cinder tracks on return leg to the bay was a little boring if I’m being honest with only a couple of good viewpoints. Car parking by Station Road is free until March 1st which is a bonus. After the walk head down to the beach, just mind the steep hill afterwards on the way back to car park.

We took a walk from Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay with our dog, along the Cleveland Way cliff top path. It is well signposted and from St Mary's Church to the top of RHB is 6.5 miles, and we took around 3.5 hours as we stopped a few times for water and a snack plus wanted to admire and photograph the views.

A few parts are steep up and down to cross little streams, so you need to take your time and watch the slippery steps and rocks.

RHB is picturesque with its quaint cobbled streets and alleyways leading down to the beach. However we visited Staithes (up the coast) later in the week and found it to be quieter and much nicer.

We did however have a lovely lunch and a couple of pints at the Victoria Hotel back up the hill before a final explore and then catching the X93 back to Whitby, with the dog allowed on board.

Glorious walk from Robin Hood’s Bay to Whitby, along the Cleveland Way cliff top path ... around 6-7 miles, and 3.5 hours, because we just kept stopping to admire the stunning views. You can’t go wrong, it’s so well signposted, and a clear path all the way ... a few parts are steep up and down to cross little becks, but fine if you take your time and watch your step. Beautiful views all the way, and we even saw a dolphin pod out to sea - don’t miss the Hornblower Tea Garden, about 2 miles short of Whitby, perfect for a quick stop ...

Robin Hood's Bay to Ravenscar is a great walk along the coast but up and down in places so you have to be reasony fit. There is a NT cafe at Ravenscar and a pub. You can come back via the Cinder Track an old railway line which is flat and goes all the way back to RHB.

Starting in the bank top car park, which has free toilets and RingGo parking, we walked the cliff top walk as recommended by the North York Moor website. Lovely views out to sea and along the coastline ahead. The paths are stone, and through fields with inclines and declines. We came back up to the caravan site and used the cafe and toilets there before joining the cinder trail to walk back. The cinder trail is flat and wide and you still get good views of the coast so could use this for a more accessible walk.
